[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
It was about 12.30 in the afternoon, Luang Prabang time. We were walking around the traffic-less roads and decided to climb the 228 steps up the hill called Mount Phousi in the centre of Luang Prabang. Besides offering excellent views of Luang Prabang, the mighty Mekong River flowing south, and the surrounding jungle, the 100 meter high hill has some significant sites. On the north-eastern side of the hill are the ruins of Wat Pra Putthabaat, built at the end of the 14th century, supposedly on the site of the Buddha's footprint.

On the northern side is Wat Paa Huak, also abandoned. The carved doors of the decaying sim were locked.

Crowning the top of the hill is the 200 year old, 24-meter high, gilded Wat Phra That Chomsi , constructed in 1804 and restored in 1914. This gold stupa is all that remains of the temples that once covered the hill during the 18th century. Due to its particular position on top of the hill, the that or stupa after which it is named is rectangular in shape and rests on a three-tiered base with lotus-flower designs in the four corners. From foot to tip, the stupa measures 21 metres. The gold-spired stupa seemed to radiate warmth and a feeling of well-being in the rays of the sun. On the Lao New Year, townspeople walk from the little sanctuary down the hill carrying candles and effigies of Naga, the town's protector. In a stark reminder of the years of conflict, also on the hill is an abandoned Russian anti-aircraft cannon....and ironic enough we saw a young Novice Monk using the cannon as a makeshift Merry-Go-Round!!!

Hello Angshuman,
the Wat is nicely included to composition, good coloring and nice crisp blue sky!
regards,
imre

Hi Angshu. A nice shot of the gilded Wat atop the hill. I understand that you had to work hard to get a vantage position to capture the full view especially over the tall trees. I was really thrilled to read about Mekong which is one of the major rivers in the world passing through perhaps four to five countries. Great.

it is difficult to get the tower good in pov, the details are nice and the contrast made the shot good, well seen.

Hi Angshu!
Good shot of this landmark from Luang Prabang. You placed the stupa perfect and it's nice framed by the trees. You were lucky to have such a blue sky,the contrast is great.
Regards,Leo

Hi Angshu,
Good perspective of this golden Stupa. Your description to the subject is giving good details. Tress and the background sky is making it more attractive.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Angshuman,

A+

Hello Angshuman

I took a sunset from this same hill. Good juxtapositioning of the gold stupa against the blue sky, with superb sharpness. The tropical vegetation gives this a 'lost city' atmosphere. Tfs!

Hi Angshuman,
interesting view, amazing gold tower and architecture, unusual POV. I like the colours and composition also. Good work.

Olá Angshu, interesting story of the Novice Monk and very beautiful framing of the gold stupa through all this luxurious greenery. I'm not sure if you could have done it diferently, but I really like its placement at left of the image. Great colors and nice details on the 'jungle'. It seems that you had perfect conditions for this shot.
Friendly regards,
Ricardo

Dear Angshuman,
I found it particularly difficult to get the right exposure with these gilded stupas as I experienced in Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai. Very similar looking structure atop a hill. You have this perfectly framed and exposed with the trees in the FG.
Best Wishes
Sabyasachi

Bonjour, cher Angshu,
Ce toit d'or sortant de cette végétation est du plus bel effet.
Il fait ressortir à merveille l'architecture typique. L'ensemble se découpe harmonieusement sur ce ciel bleu.
Très bonne journée, mon ami.
Philippe

Bonjour Angshu,
A note, with a good description of Wat Phra That Chomsi, well illustrated with the view of the remains of the sunlit Gold stupa, well positioned in your compo and which stands out nicely against the blue sky. I think your POV is well chosen because it looks not so easy with the surrounding vegetation.
Cheers
Marilyn

Interesting and exotic place. I like the composition with the main element behind the greenery.

Dear Angshu,
Fascinating shot. This is a very attractive and fine impression. Beautiful glittering details and very nice composition. Excellent lights and impressive POV. Beautiful spectacle, indeed. Have a nice day, thank you
George

Hi Angshuman,
Your setting is very interesting and well choosen, where the golden Stupa placed aside, surrounded with vegetation and cut away on the blue sky, it forms a very interesting image and with great plasticity.
Simple and very beautiful photo, my friend.
Best regards,
Josep

Good shot of the That from a low POV emphasising its significance. I like the way you composed it on the left with all the foliage to frame it. About the novice monk - now that would be a shot!
Kath

Very nice gold roof emerging for the top of the trees, and nice colors. I just wonder what if would have done if you had chosen a more classical vertical framing.

All the best,

Emmanuel

Olá Angshu

Gosto muito desta composição, simples e atraente.
Cores magníficas onde o dourado da torre realça contra o ázul lindo do céu. Parabéns!

Grande abraço,
Vera.

I enjoy this kind of place, when you suddenly discover a stupa, dazzling in the sun, in the landscape... You share that mood very well here. Well composed.
Stéphane

Hello Angshu, I like much this kind of framing where nature and the plants are used, there are many lights within this idyllic framework or before vegetable plan rate/rhythm this landscape, as for the temple of rather big size, as you describe it in your note, it scintillates like jewels under this blue of the sky, sincerely ........................Hello Angshu, j’aime beaucoup ce genre de cadrage où la nature et les plantes sont utilisées, il y a beaucoup de lumières dans ce cadre idyllique ou l’avant plan végétal rythme ce paysage, quant au temple d’assez grande taille, comme tu le décris dans ta note, il scintille comme un bijoux sous ce bleu du ciel, bien amicalement

Hi Angshu - I like the way the pagoda rises from the seemingly impenetrable jungle, being picky maybe I would crop a little from the right and from the top, to give the pagoda a bigger presence.
