A butterfly sharing a meal of what seems to be a bird's dropping with a fly on a small rock.

Taking macro photography with a kit lens is very challenging. Patience is of the essence here. Approach the subject slowly and carefully. We do not want to scare the subject away. In full zoom and high aperture, manually focus the lens till you get the sharpness desired and release the shutter with controlled slow breathing.

I was crouching on my elbows and knees when I took this photo. It was rather painful but worth the shot, don't you think so?

Yes it is Alvin.
Now you know why some photographers wear photovests.

Do get up close and personal as much as possible with your subject. Either on your knees or even if you have to crawl. Or lying down. But always remember, not just for the sake of taking it but also seeing it. The camera is just a tool between your mind and your subject. It's not just for your camera. The camera is just a tool to record what you see in the best way you could. In photography, subject matters most, beside you.
