KOMTAR (Malay: Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak), or more accurately KOMTAR Tower (Menara KOMTAR in Malay) is Penang's tallest building and the sixth tallest building in Malaysia. It is located in the heart of George Town. When the skyscraper topped out it was the tallest building in Asia, by the time construction was completed it had however been surpassed by Seoul's Korean Life Insurance Building (KLI 63 Building). The 65-storey tower is a 12-sided geometric block, 760ft (232m) tall, sitting atop a 4-storey podium. The complex comprises office and retail commercial space as well as public and recreational facilities. It was designed by Architects Team 3 (AT3) of Singapore.[1]

KOMTAR occupies an 11-hectare site and is the single most ambitious urban renewal project undertaken by Penang Development Corporation, the development arm of the Penang state government. The master plan is divided into five phases for implementation. The complex is named in honour of the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late Tun Abdul Razak bin Hussein. The first piling of the building's phase one was done by Tun Razak himself on 1 January 1974. Part of the complex's first phase podium block was completed in 1978.

Penang - KOMTAR

Centrum miasta to jedno wielkie Chinatown.

Hello Miroslow. I thought this building looks familiar in the thumbnail. Stunning image over the roof of the old Penang. Good looking sky with puffy white cloud. I like it and already in my favorite. I hope you had a good time in Penang. Best regards. Jusni

Witaj!
Pięknie prezentują się te dachy i górujący nad nimi wieżowiec na tle wspaniałego nieba.
Dobra ostrość i ładne kolory.
Pozdrawiam
Tadeusz

No... w Malezji byłeś! To dopiero ciekawe! Ale kontrast architektoniczny! Tutaj te stare dachy a tu wysokościowiec. Ciekawie to wypadło!

hi Miroslaw

It is very interesting for us as Malaysians to find out how a foreign visitor will view our scenery and landscape. Whether your viewpoint is similar to what we see daily?

I like your pov and attention to the Komtar building for a 1st time visitor. I also look forward to see if you have Penang Hill shots.

tfs, bill

Hi Mirek,
You make the view over the rooftops look so wonderful. Nice colors, clarity, and sharpness. I'm from mainland Penang but now reside in Kuala Lumpur. I used to come in my younger days to streets within your photo quite often ... that was before KOMTAR and other Super Store were build. Streets such as Penang Road, Chulia Street, Campbell Street, and Prangin Road were the main shopping area then ... with old style shopping & bargaining. TFS. Regards. Latiff.

Hi Miroslaw. Nice composition. Good colors on the roofs and good definition too. Wonderful clouds fighting for main role with the tower. Well done. Paulo

Hej
Fajne ujęcie tej wieżyczki ponad dachami domów. Świetne kolorki i światło. I mam wrażenie, że odrobina zapachów przedostała się na zdjęcie ;).
Pozdrawiam

Hi Miroslaw
I like very much your composition.
