Photographer’s Note
Camels at sunset in Khongor Els in the Gobi. (Also spelt as Khongoryn / Hongor Els). The sand dunes on the left, are 300 metres high, and amongst the world's highest. But what impressed me more, was their length of 450 km. The dunes run parallel between 2 mountain ranges. I attempted to climb them, but gave up at the 200 metre mark, as it was just too steep. Storm clouds are building up, & it actually rained that night with thunder & lightning. A big surprise in the Gobi Desert.
From wikipedia: "The Bactrian camel has two humps on it's back, in contrast to the Dromedary, also known as the Arabian Camel, which has one." (Australian camels were imported from Afghanistan in the 19th century, & have one hump.)
"Nearly all of the estimated 1.4 million Bactrian Camels alive today are domesticated." Only 950 remain in the wild.

uh, strong saturation here, makes this photo looking a bit unreal (my opinion only :)
but great composition, great idea, even better colors, just... great.
i would add a bit of a contrast, and reduce saturation a bit..
with shadows/highlights effects, i think this skies can be improved

Hello Chris,
A good composition of these ships of the desert silhouetted against the sunset. Lovely tones and good sharpness.

Hi Chris,
what a strange light from the background to the blue foreground. Must be a true desert effect. Nice addition with those camels.

Not another sunset shot. Wait, this one works because the camels add texture and a story to photo. Good work!

Hi Chris,
Difficult to believe its desert with all the green about....but the camels give it away eh?An impressive skyline with the deep sunset thought there is a lack in quality. Not unusual to see these "Desert Ships" in the south of my country.

Hi Chris. I just love the warm and mellow colors. The camels are all well placed in the shot too. I think I see some noise in the shot but that's about the only thing. Beautiful shot Chris.

Hi Chris,
Long time no hear. My fault ... I've been sick and not in the mood to post. Glad to see you're still travelling a lot. This is an amazing picture with a mean looking sky. Great compo. Bottom part is well dodged for detail visibility. Very informative note, too. You sure do get to some exotic places. Well done!

Hello Chris,
An attractive composition!
I like how the camels creates a silhouette like shapes against the sky, and the light gives some amazing desert colours!

De très jolies couleurs et un superbe ciel.

A fine picture of the bactrian camels. Looks like you've coaxed out the details in the shadow & hence there are some unusual colours especially on the camels. But the landscape is great, & the sky has excellent colours. An informative note too

Hey Chris,
ahhhh have you finished your trip then? Ive been away from TE for weeks so I missed your latest critique. Been too busy to post here. This sot I feel is your best shot from the trip, because it is much closer to the human scale, you know Im not a lover of landscapes, maybe they are too big for me. I like the small, its more accessible to me.

Hi Chris,
As I always write - camels are my weakness:)
So when I only saw them on the thumbnail - simply had to write you a few words:) I really like the photo 'cause you showed the camels in quite different way - among greenery...usually we can see typical Arab camels on the sand...
Well done and thx for camels:)
Greetings

Well Chris
Technically maybe not the best picture, I mean it is a little noisy, but the setup is great and so is the late afternoon colors.
