Photographer’s Note
My first wildlife... :)
The central Mongolia is full of them, but on the other way it is very hard to shoot them.
From car You see the hundreds of them but when You go outside, there is no chance to get to them closer.
It took me almost one hour to shoot him and I use the ruse. There was my friend approaching him from the angle the marmot is watching. I went very silently from other way. The marmot was seeking my friend and I get very close meantime. I used burst shooting and on the second photo, there was the tail only... :)

Awesome shot with a cute subject, classic composition, good colors and excellent use of a shallow depth of field. You posted some great shots from Mongolia. I could never tell the difference between prairie dogs, gophers, ground squirrels and marmots living on the plains. They are indeed different...

Hi Martin,
one of the best wildlife shots on TE. Your a real tarwagachin = marmothunter. Congratulations.
Kind regards,
Roland

Nice shot, Martin.
Little animal on your photo called Ground Squirrel, not a Marmot. Marmot is so wild animal and will not allow human to get close. They go to their hole quickly if they see human from distance of couple hundred meters. Adult Ground Squirrel is smaller than baby Marmot.
