Lake Hovsgol Sailboats Photo

Photographer’s Note

After days of the dusty, barren moonscape of the Gobi desert, it was a pleasant surprise, to see such green grass, & so much water. Lake Hovsgol is adjacent to the Russian border with east Siberia & a pleasant place in June / July.

Apologies for the small size, but that's what the film lab in UB scanned them to cd as (597p). I usually get 1,700 pixels length.

Hello Chris,

This is an interesting image with a cartoon-like impression!
All elements are well defined so are the colours...
I notice the special design of the sailboats, probably able of good speed in fair wind..!

Hello Chris,

Even small I find superb this photograph as well in framing as in the bright colors. The light was very pleasant this day. An aspect of Mongolia which I did not know, thank you Chris.

It never ceases to amaze me how much 'globe trotting' you have done!
The bright colours of the grass, the sky and the sailboats seem miles away from my concept of The Gobi Desert.
Beautifully composed with a good dof.

Hi Chris,

The presence of the sailboats has an effect of scale. The point of view takes our eyes toward the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the composition. It is also showing the details and colors of the house. The luminosity is enhancing the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

It's a very nice graphical and colour arrangement. It's curious how everything looks so small. If you hadn't included the cabin, I would think that the boats are toys.

Dag Chris,

Small but beautiful. The landscape can be unexpected green for Mongolia, but the elegant boat also seems unexpected and from another world. Probably not Russian although the colours of the boat on the right side do suppose that.

These small sailboats look like toyboats. Like your framing here with part of the log cabin on the left. The light is bright & good. The sails have a very different type of design!
