"Ogii Nuur ('Nuur' is Mongolian for 'lake') is located in the valley of the Orkhon River, to the north of the main Khangai ridge in the Arctic Ocean Drainage Basin, 165km north of Arvayheer (47°46'N, 102°46'E). It is a mesotrophic, freshwater lake of 2,510 ha, with an extensive alluvial area of grassland, river, channels, pools and marshes at the western end. The maximum depth of the lake is 16m, but about 40% of the lake is less than 3m deep, and 50% supports macrophytic grown. The surface water temperature in summer reaches 18°C.

The lake is a very important breeding and staging area for a variety of waterfowl, particularly for Anatidae."

The lake abounds in various types of fish and birds, which creates a incredible natural beauty. It also provides a favorable condition for research work and traveling. This lake is truly wonderful place for bird life. More than 150 types of rare birds dwell in Lake Ogii. That's why it is a place of special interest for researchers and naturalists. Considering this situation, we have started work building a special tower from where tourists can watch the birds and take photographs."

There is only one other upload of this lake on TE, & it's incorrectly shown as 'Tov' Aimag or province, which is east of UB. This area of North Hangay is 300 km west of UB. The ger camp I stayed in overnight, can be seen on the horizon top right. The lake is a good place to chill out, after long trip in a Gobi Desert. I will be very busy, over the next 3-4 days, so won't be uploading/crtiquing as often.

Hi Chris,
You got the most out of a flat landscape from this fine POV giving depth and volume due to the curve of the lake. Deep blue looks great there! I appreciate also the excellent sharpness.

Beautiful place! The colour of the water just does it for me. I like the tones and the perfect sharpness of the image. The lakeshore also balances the image nicely. Nice work :-)

I really enjoy seeing your photos from Mongolia. It is an unknown country for me and you are doing extremely well showing it. This is another excellent picture with a superb blue lake and two nice parallel long curves. The wide POV is excellent and I ma just wondering what are those white things in the far background. This is a typically good use of the wide angle to show the scenery. The curving shore line with the lovely contrast between the aquamarine blue & the right makes very attractive viewing. A simple scene but a beautiful capture.
