Photographer’s Note

A view of Khatsgal from the hill behind Natures Door tourist resort, near Garage 24. (The Russians would drive across frozen Lake Hovsgol in Winter, and the ruins of the old stone garage are still visible.) The strip of blue near the horizon is the stream that exits lake Hovsgol, 1 km over on the left. This area is very close to the Russian border with Siberia.

This batch of film was processed in Mongolia, and they scanned it at only 580 pixels length, hence the small size.

Hi Chris,

Not bad for a small scan. The view is pretty and peaceful. I was wondering what the structures on the ground are but now I know. Good colours and excellent point of view. Thanks Chris :-)

A nice view of the valley from a high POV, sorry that the scan work done in Mongolia only permitted small pictures. Good colors and light.

Chris,

Very interesting landscape which looks very different to Inner Mongolia which I visited many years ago. I did not expect this kind of grassland.

Very good composition and execution with the rocks in the foreground, in the middle the grassland and then the clouds and the blue sky. Good DOF and sharpness.

Hi Chris,

The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The point of view leads our eyes through the valley toward the mountains in the backgroiund which is giving a sense of depth to the photo. The luminosity is enhancing the different tints of colors of the scenery. When you took the photo was it a digital camera ? Have a nice day.

Hi Chris,
It's pity that the quality of the scan isn't better, but we can still enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the compo, with the V done by the rocks framing the green plain below with that array of squares.
