The capital of Mongolia, Ulan Bator, is affectionately abbreviated, to just 'UB'. Here's a streetscape, that few tourists seem eager to record. The text is Russian Cyrillic. About one third of Mongolia's total population of 3 million, live in this one city.

From Wikipedia:

"Ulan Bator, or Ulaanbaatar (Mongolian: Улаанбаатар) is the capital and largest city of Mongolia. The city is an independent municipality not part of any province, and its population as of 2008 is just over 1 million.[1]

Located in the north central part of the country, the city lies at an elevation of about 1310 m in a valley on the Tuul River. It is the cultural, industrial, and financial heart of the country. It is a transport center, connected by highway to all the major towns in Mongolia and by rail to the Trans-Siberian Railway and Chinese railroad network.[2]

The city was founded in 1639 as a Buddhist monastery center and, in the 20th century, grew into a major manufacturing center defined by its broad boulevards and squares and Socialist Classicist-style buildings."

Not many pictures from a so distant world!
Good urban view, quite different from the ones that i remember from the 80's, when streets were without cars!
colorful view.
thansk, ciao

Attractive buildings you present here, Chris, in this unusual urban shot of Mongolia. Nice sharpness. Regards, Daniel

The yellow car makes a nice strong point in this picture. It dragged my eye immediately as soon as I looked at the picture. Nicely composed.

interesting warm tones, good light well managed

Hello Chris,
Colorful street view, well lighted indeed. As I am not such a fan of distortions from wide angle lens, I hope you don't mind a workshop trying to adjust the vertical perspective.
Regards,
Guy

Bonjour Chris,
ici, j'aime beaucoup les couleurs et les lumières, belle ambiance, des perspectives puet-être qui valaient la peine d'être redressée légérement.

Hello Chris,
i like your photos from Mongolia,a country almost so unknown at least to me.Nice the architectural line of the buildings especially of the first one as the little number of cars that are on the road.In my screen there is a lot of a yellowish hue and i don't know why.Informative your note too.

Hi Chris,
interesting view from the town,
beautiful architecture and good capture of the scene with good POV and lighting,
Greetings,
Dimitris.

Hello Chris,

This is the first time I have seen a photo of Mongolia. My own laziness I suppose. The composition is very good. The architecture really is 'Socialist Classicist-style'. The tons are nice and warm.

Well done

Regards
Kamran

Hi Chris,
Un pays riche en architecture, jolie la teinte des couleurs chaudes de l'ensemble, belle image de vie quotidienne
Have a nice day for you
cricri

This goes against all of my preconceived images of Mongolia, there is no evidence of this being in Asia, even the central asian former USSR republics have some evidence, amazing, it's as if a siberian town got planted in Mongolia. I also did not expect to see a highrise such as the one in the top right corner. Very enlightening.

Hi Chris, I am surprised to see such a modern city, i thought it would be more antiquated than what you show us here. Your trip photos of this little-seen area would be good wrapped into a book. I hope you do that one day, i'll buy a signed copy. TFS. Murray.

It is indeed one of the least photographed capitals of the world.
Excellent street scene with an interesting light.
Well done!

Good morning Chris!
Great capture of the street from the capitol of Mongolia. Lovely warm light, pastel colours and sharp details. Thanks for the note
best regards

So this is the city of Ulan Batar.
Very interesting, I don't know what I expected, but I am a little disappointed that there are no horse riding savages in the street.
This looks more like Russian architecture (maybe it is the Cyrillic letters that are directing my impression in that direction:)
But all very interesting and educating.
Harry
