[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
"Yolyn Am" is Mongolian for "Vulture's Mouth". It is an incredible sight to see this 3 metre thick ice sheet, in the middle of summer, in the middle of the South Gobi Desert. In winter, it's 30 metres thick. This place is poorly represented on TE. More info from Wikipedia here:

"Yolyn Am (Mongolian: Ёлын Ам, Lammergeier Valley) is a deep and narrow gorge in the Gurvansaikhan Mountains of southern Mongolia. The valley is named after the Lammergeier, which is called Yol in Mongolian. The Lammergeier is an Old World vulture, hence the name is often translated to Valley of the Vultures or Valley of the Eagles.

The valley is located within Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. Yolyn Am is found in the Zuun Saikhanii Nuruu (the Eastern Beauty) subrange of the Gurvansaikhan Mountains. The area, as part of the Gobi Desert, sees little precipitation. However, Yolyn Am is notable for a deep ice field. The ice field reaches several meters thick by the end of winter, and is several kilometers long. In past years it remained year round, but the modern ice field tends to disappear by September."

The red colour on the ice, is a coating of dust & sand, from the encircling Gobi Desert.

Hi Chris,
interesting rock and ice formation captured from a pleasant POV. I like the good textures of rock and ice (better sand and dust on the ice).

Hi Chris
Good use of the vertical format giving height to the side cliffs and strangely shaped hole in the FG.
The strong light intensity difference is well managed with good details in the shade areas.
Greetings
Laurent

hi Chris

Very unusual stone formation and such a great close up view giving good DOF and sharpness. Tough but you did so well in exposure under such bright light without shadow.

This is really different. A very interesting and pretty scene well captured with a nice pov and good sharp color. TFS and have a great day!

Hi Chris,
Impressive rocks and cliffs, well the light because you had difficult light contrast with sun and shadows, great effect.

Hi Chris. Fascinating place, must get cold at night to retain the ice I guess. Wonderful colours, I can see the blue of the ice in the hole. Well composed and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Bonjour Chris,
voilà un document certainment interessant pour les géologues.
Il manque quelques repères pour se faire une idée des proportions et des tailles, un peu dommage.
Best regards.
Daniel.
