Photographer's Note

This is the most noticeable huge Shwezigon pagoda glimmering in the early morning sun. Located in Nyaung U township on the edge of Pagan archaeological site on the bank of Irradwaddy river, it was built in 1090 AD by King Anawrahta the founder of Old Pagan empire. It's an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists as it enshrines a number of sacred Buddhist relics within the huge complex. The solid stupa is almost 50 meters high and completely gilded and sits in the center of a large platform on a square base and visible from all four corners. It inspires faith even today, bringing joy to the hearts of monks, pilgrims and laymen alike as they behold its brilliant golden color.
