It's a nice portrait, Bertrand, with lovely colour and a sweet serious expression. This is a typical ceremony among the Theravada Buddhists and I have attended many such ceremonies. The traditions vary from area to area. In Surin, for example, they ride on an elephant. In Mai Hong Son they ride on the shoulders of their fathers. He is going to be ordained a novice, (samenaria) usually this happens during the boy’s 10th year. Usually all the boys of the same age group in a community ordains together. They live in the temple a short time, with their friends. They study a little and play a lot. Their parents come to see them every day to ‘tamboon’ that is bring food and, best of all, their parents have to kneel at their feet and call the “Sir" It is clearly an important rite of passage. His next ordination, to the priesthood (Bhikku) will be after his 20th birthday. The dress and paint are nothing to do with making him like a girl; it is a traditional way of marking the importance of the day. Buddhism has no baptism, nor anything resembling it. We have no sacraments and there is no ceremony for becoming a Buddhist for (except perhaps the “Taking of refuge” which we do every day anyway). We just are, if we are in our hearts. Ah mais je pense que c'est un futurNat Gadaw, ce petit garçon. Il est éduqué pour devenir la "voix" et la "fiancée" des esprits.
Encore l'incroyable syncrétisme birman entre le bouddhisme et les esprits des Nats. Il fait vraiment la jonction entre sa destinée de Nat Gadaw et son éducation bouddhiste.
Ayant eu des comptes rendus de la part de birmans de leurs trois séjours rituels dans les monastères, les petits moines ne sont pas si malheureux et les jeux sont en général assez bien tolérés. Les pleurs viennent souvent des mères qui laissent pour la première fois leurs derniers sans elles.

Salut Bertrand, il est magnifique ce portrait, effectivement c'est curieux la façon dont il est habillé et maquillé, j'imagine que ça a une signification et à lire ta note j'y trouve un début de réponse.
En tout cas la photo est de grande qulité, très colorée, super nette et un bon vieux bokek des familles.

This is a very vibrant photo. The colors of the boy's outfit, as well as the background, really jump out. I like the way his face is turned only partially towards the camera. The quality is so sharp that I can see the gold sequins reflecting on the boy's face. I have added this photo to my theme of Traditional Asian Dress. :-)

Luko a raison, tu charries un peu, Bertrand. En fait, ils sont traites comme des petits princes en ce jour special, et la fierte des parents le leur confirme. Et puis, on ne force pas le petit qui a peur de quitter sa famille. Plus tard, grand, il ne faudra pas le prier pour enfin accomplir sa communion solennelle, car c' est un peu a cela que ca ressemble. Les familles peuvent depenser un argent fou ce jour la.

Tres beau portrait, mais je reconnais cette moue. Celle d' un gamin qu' on a fait lever un peu tot, et qui sera bien content quand on lui fichera la paix, parce que les honneurs, ca va un moment, et puis on joue au foot dans les monasteres! ;-)

j'aime bien ce costume et le visage de ce garçon, mais je ne peut pas éviter, en observant son regard, de penser à tout ce qui se passe dans cet instant en Myamar… c’est vraiment dommage que dans un pays ainsi beau il y a autant des problèmes…

Une belle image tres luminueuse et avec des vetements d'une richesse incroyable au vu de la pauvrete apparente de ce pays, mais aujourd'hui cette photo prend une dimension differente et le regard courrouce de ce garcon semble etre un jugement porte sur les evenements.

Magnifique image...je la regarde avec un grand soupir...car en vue de la situation actuelle au pays je dois changer ma destination de voyage (la Birmanie était prévue pour moi dans 3 semaines) :(
Vais devoir me rabbattre sur le Laos ou le Vietnam...connais tu ces pays? Que conseilles tu? (je dois choisir entre les deux et suis indécise)Je pensais te demander vu que tu as l'air d'avoir pas mal voyagé...;o)

Espérons que les Birmans pourront se défaire au moins du régime militaire...je le leur souhaite de tout mon coeur!

Bonjour Bertrand, ce joli minois malgré sa tristesse sa peur ou que sais-je encore est bien saisis dans une position naturel, et avec le costume plus la décoration florale l'ensemble est presque tragique ou poétique, c‘est selon, ton image figée certainement sur le vif na rien à envier à celle qu’aurai prise un photographe professionnel sur le même modèle, encore une fois cela doit être super de tombé sur pareil sujet coloré (mais pour ça y faut voyager)la mise au point est extra ainsi que ce boken qui en découle, bien amicalement

"l'enfant roi" ! parfaitement réalisé, juste une petite ombre à déboucher, et on a l'éclairage aprfait sur ce costume magnifique.
Le visage, sérieux, impressionne, l'air et grave et la prise rend bien la solennité d'un moment de première importance dans une vie.
