You fight us
because we fight hatred,
while you feed on hatred and violence
for strength.

You curse us
because we don't give man a label
and turn a gun barrel on him.

You condemn us
because you can't use our blood
in paying off your debts of greed;
because you can't budge us
from man's side,
where we stand to protect all life.

And you murder us
because we bow our heads
before man's love and reason;
because we steadfastly refuse
to identify him
with the wolves.

Tuesday, September 25

The junta, which repressed the 1988 protests by killing some 3,000 people, finally broke its silence over the mounting protests late on Monday, saying it was ready to "take action". Armed troops have now been deployed in Yangon after tens of thousands of Buddhist monks and civilians again defied the army's warning to stay off the streets.

Wednesday, September 26

Riot police have used batons and tear gas to beat back protesters including monks at the Rangoon pagoda used as a rallying-point for marchersy. They baton-charged a crowd of civilians and monks outside the Shwedagon Pagoda as demonstrators readied for a ninth day of protest marches.

"We have already decided to risk our lives for the people, although there might be some clashes," one senior monk told AFP news agency before the baton charge.

"We will show our kindness first."

Eric (eleparc) just created a theme gathering all photos in support of this freedom's movement of the burmese people and monks: All together with the Burmese people.

Hi Vincent,
Fantastic composition .... the warm lighting and contrast is just perfect. The bridge creates a strong structure of lines while the monks gives the compo the needed human elements to make the photo perfect. Excellent work! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

A gear image from a famous bridge. You have caught a nice and different PoV, Vince, and it is very carefully and beautifully composed. the simplicity add to the strength. regards kevin

I like the color of the sky a lot. It adds to the mood, created by the monks.
As if they are walking in the sky..

hi vincent,
very timely post - scene captured in gorgeous light toped up by a beautiful poem - hopefully things will get better for them!
thanks,
dora

Beautifully composed, and almost perfect timing. Great use of color - the monks' robes against the setting sunlight. It really gives a sense of motion. I see the jagged pillars as the broken society that will be reconstructed, hopefully soon.

Good shot. I like the light and the present of the 2 monks walking. I also like your title. Very nice one. Sothy

Bonjour Vincent

Bonne journee,
Jean-Yves

interesting view and note about the protest. Nicely minimalist composition with warm colours. Good documental shot. I like it.

i just created a theme to gather all photos in support of the burmese people's urge towards freedom. Please join in! I added your photo in the theme. Hope you do not mind my doing so!
Eric

As for the photo, it brings up in my mind the idea of a contrast between the softness and gentleness inspired by the pinkish light and the two monks, and the harshness of those wooden pillars, that could epitomize the dictatorial regime that has been ruling the country for much too long now...

Salut Vincent,

Nice photo and a nice addition to the theme. Although they are walking in the opposite direction, I can't help but notice the similarities to a shot I submitted a while back.

A very timely post, Vincent, given the brutal crackdown that the military junta is imposing on the monks (and civilians) at the moment in Myanmar. I was tempted to add a comment about China's role in this, but won't because that might cause access to TrekEarth to be blocked in China, and I don't want to be responsible for causing problems for our Chinese TE contributors. All Internet access from Myanmar has now been cut off by the junta there, so it doesn't matter what you say about the brutal despots that are running the country and imposing so much suffering on its people.

As far as the image is concerned, I've seen similar on TE, but you've executed this one well both in terms of composition and the technical aspects.

Cheers . . . David

This photo came at a time when the Burmese people and monks are fighting for their freedom. Very nice dedication towards their fight.

Salut Vincent,

Great compo and light, giving it a very nice mood. The low POV makes it look like they are walking on the sky. What a contrast with the political and social situation of the country!

Let's hope that things get better, but I confess bitterly that I am not very confident. The so called "international community" seems to be even less interested in doing anything than it uses to. Asking the Chinese, another dictatorship of the worst kind, to help on the situation is nothing more than a bad tasted joke.

Amicalement, José.

Beautiful photo, very well framed and with good exposure & colours.

Salut Vincent..
Bravo
