Kangtega and Thamserku

| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
I had visited the Everest region of Nepal 3 times prior to this trip and I had been up the Gokyo, Khumbu and Imja valleys previously but never up towards Thame the birth place of Tenzing Norgay, the first man along with Ed Hillary to stand on top of the highest peak on earth.
On the way up to the village at 3800m the mountains were in cloud and we weren't aware of the peaks around us.
Towards the evening, as often happens, the clouds parted to reveal some of the mountains around us and we could see Kangtega and Thamserku at the head of the valley down towards Namche. Both these peaks stand over 6500m high.
What is strange though is that they are visible from high up in each of the 3 main valleys. Up towards Thame, high up near Gokyo and also towards Everest. It is though there are three prong of a fork that form the valleys up from Namche Bazar with Kangtega and Thamserku sitting at the focal point.
I shot this picture in RAW which allowed me to finely adjust the highlight and shadow contrast to make the resultant image as close to how it actually was in real life. |
