Hi Henk.
I think death is part of our lifes that no one can avoid, which is a fact, no matter how ironic it sounds. I can feel for this people, as I had also some relatives and friend who passed away. But life goes on. I am glad you kept a distance, not bringing the faces into a full frame. I keep looking at their feet, all different. What is the meaning of the red colour splashed here and there? If it's blood than it is better for you to remove this picture, as it's disturbing.
take care, Aleks

Dag Henk,

Hello Henk,
A nice photo of this ceremony with good light and exposure, nice colors and sharpness, you must have zoomed quite a lot as it is relatively far to get this POV if i remember well! I suppose you mean Hindu and not Indian , the latter being a nationality and the former the religion of most nepali and indian people!! Then i wonder why this should insult someone(exept for the Nepalese who might not like to be called Indian, as Indians wouldnt like to be called Nepalese!!!)
Well done anyways!

Hi Henk, This is very powerful work! It could be difficult for some people to watch, but it's a ceremony that none of us come close to and therefor important to share through photos. It is obvious that you shot this work with respect and that is very importan for this type of work. A photo that makes me silent. Thanks for sharing. Sabine

Hola Henk,
This is a nice antropologic composition. I like colours and expression of sadness of the subjects. I reflect a custom of indian people.
I just hope you'll put more light to the photo. I done a workshop and hope you love it.
Well done.

I would like to share Sabine’s words. You really left me disturbed about this photo. It’s a very good one; no doubt about it. But it troubles me a lot looking at it. A very powerful picture that really incarnates the spirit of TE.

Hi Henk,
You have captured an enlightening moment and scene for those of us who have not had the opportunity to visit those places yet.
I don't think this is an offensive picture Henk, for death is just a part of life. Infact, from the moment when we are born, we have already started the journey towards the cremation ground, don't you think so? Thanks for sharing!

Hi Henk,
I don t think that you're insulting someone with that photo , because you're showing it with full respect and give some explanations about it. For sure, it is a Special and a Precious moment!
To me, it is a beautiful photo...
All the best,
Marilyn

A very strong documentary piece of work. Your note is the perfect companion for this image. Godspeed.
Hallo Henk,
It's a touching image. I have just posted two WS's that also show a funeral, but they lack the intensity and the technical quality of this one. The stairs and the legs enhance the feeling that the ceremony is felt much more by the close relatives than by the others.
I hesitated writing something about the feeling of peace that you refer in the note, because I also felt it very deeply and was impressed with the apparent differences of that people's attitude towards death; not that they feel less sad or less intensively, but simply different in a way that I can't explain. I ended up not referring anything about that, cowardly fearing that I could me misunderstood and labelled bad tasted.
Regards, José.
