[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Patan is separated from Kathmandu only by the Bagmati River and is the second largest town in the valley. It is also known as Lalitpur, which means city of beauty. . The Golden Temple or Hiranya Varna Mahavihar is the richest temple in Patan. The temple is just tow minutes walk towards, the north of the Durbar Square. The temple, built in the 12th Century, is very popular among the Buddhists of Patan. There are beautiful statues inside the courtyard of the temple like the monkey offering a jack fruit shown on this picture.

In the West such a beautiful piece would certainly be cleaned up, fixed then stored in a museum. Here in Nepal it is left where it was since the beginning, half broken, with a chain forgotten many years ago around its neck... But it is also covered with pujas every day and remains a true object of cult.

Very nice Vincent. The monkey, covered by chains, dominating the focus of the portrait creates a very dramatic sense in the photo (for lack of better wording). Sharpness and detail are excellent. Colors and composition are also very good, with a good POV and DOF to isolate the monkey.

Nice work.
John

Very nice picture with excellent sharpness on the monkey and a good blur in the background. The colours are good too. Sometimes I wonder what would be the best thing to do, if let it outside at the weather or restore it and keep in the museum. Well done.
Antonio

Vincent -
A very clean and clear shot. Youve got everything technically perfect here, and the framing and subject is also great.
Cheers,
Dave.

Beautiful work of art. The monkey figure look very good and the details on the background keep the image interesting. Nice use of light and interesting note to explain the importance of this temple. Nice work Vincent.

Excellent shot Vincent with equally good notes - perfect TE material. Nicely composed, sharp detail & well chosen DOF. TFS, Roberto

Salut Vincent,

Bonnes couleurs.
J'aime bien.
Amicalement, Grazyna.

Hello Vincent,
What a curious image! This statue is completely surprising. It is a beautiful image well realized to show us this subject. Good work.
Good day
Cordially
Joel

It makes you wonder who has the right attitude; in a museum for maximum protection or remaining as the original artist intended. Being able to see it in its setting is a pleasure here with the background details clear enough (despite the narrow DOF)to give us a sense of place.
Kath

A wonderful image, Vince and one that portraits Patan perfectly. The chains of the monkey add so much to the feeling. You are right, these cult images would be in a museum in the west, but in Nepal, the chains help to prevent to appalling loss through theft. I think the framing and the use of DoF is just about right. The prayer wheels with their mantra "Oum mani padme hum" the damaged antique image the heavy chains all serve to demonstrate the sorrow of Nepal. Rgeards kevin

Salut Vincent,
Intéressant détail de ce temple avec le singe et son jackfruit couvert de chaines... belles couleurs, bonne netteté avec le sujet se détachant bien du fond légèrement flouté.

Hello Vincent
An amazing subject for this very good picture. Amazing because I am unable to understand why the wonderful statue is 'garlanded' by the iron chain. Details in the statue appear good, especially the jackfruit. Once again a great use of DOF.

Hello Vincent,

A copper monkey with different chains this gives a wonderful picture.
Sharpness and detail are excellent, good note too.
Thanks for sharing

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Bonsoir Vincent,

Marilyn

Hi Vincent, you have here a great impressive image very informative for us.
I like the focus here very much, also the light and the great details.
Cheers
Evan

in spite of the subject of this shot it looks... alive thus very impressive; very good composition, natural colors, good sharpness and contrast - simply perfect job;
TFS, greetings - Tomasz

Vincent,
Quite an ominous figure I'd say. His constant stare, the chains, even a hole in his head - he looks almost as if he is holding his own brain in his hands - but you assure us this is a jack fruit!

A b&w conversion cold be positively scary!

A great capture though, with heavy symbolic overtones and open to a wide variety of imaginative interpritation.

Regards
Colin
