Pilgrimage to Kalilvastu, the home of the Lord Buddha. Picture1:
At the top of the main street of the village of Tilaurakot we came upon the Tourist Center, built by the local engineer’s association to welcome pilgrims to the site of the ancient city. The city was the place where the Lord Buddha spent the early years of his life. To my mind, this is what a tourist center should be, simple and unobtrusive, with not a hint of a coffee shop or souvenir store. Nothing had been done to commercialize or destroy the beauty of this remote place where, 2600 years ago the boy, Prince, Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, played.

Kevin, this a such a beautiful little welcome center!! A really good capture of it, the scenery around looks lovely. The tree is beautiful and I so enjoyed your note, it gives this place even more meaning. Very very nice!!

Charming picture, Kevin, sad, funny, funny, sad... You have very simply and succinctly captured the essence of that place. A fine TE upload in my view.
Best,
Francis

Hi Kevin!
This is a really great and original place. Good shot with nice details. It seems quite isolated too.

Hi Kevin. Such a charming feeling in this shot, so unexpected, so simple, so different from the busy touristic destinations while such an important pilgrimage place. I like it, you really caught the essence of this place.

I reckon there is cause for celelbration when you come upon a tourist center where there is no book to sign for asking a question never answered to one's full satisfaction.

Why did, out of pure imagination, imagine your Issan retired bar lady setting up here, asking the odd visitor, here Kevin, "please sit down in my humble resting place"? ....I have no idea!

PS: eagle eye again, but is that Laurent V, alias Siolaw, I see peeping thru that window in the back? :-))))
