(This copy contains some artefacs which I have removed in the workshop version) Another "red lady" (see also http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo788697.htm ), this time sitting outside her Thangka Centre. Learn more about Thangka paintings at

The ancient city of Bhaktapur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhadgaon) has been beautifully renovated and for USD10 to help continue the work you can wander the streets where locals inhabit a kind of living museum.
"Red throughout the development of civilization has had connotations with life and those things considered sacred in some way. It has developed as synonymous with the preservation of our life force, as in the symbols of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Danger signs and signals are also often surrounded in red to indicate warning or threat to life. Similarly, fire has two facets. It can be a warming lifesaver or an uncontrollable destroyer.
The color red is auspicious in Tibetan culture. It is a sacred color, one of the colors of the five Buddhas and the color of the monk's garments. It is believed to have protective qualities and is therefore often used to paint sacred buildings."

I have been to Nepal many times and I know its very well. You have captured a very true picture of this lovely place. Thanks.
Hi Paul,
very nice shot with wonderful colours and also good POV!
congratulations and
happy 2008,
Vivi
A super picture with a feeling of patience in the sitter waiting for her clients and the man lighting his cigarette in the background. The colours with the red against the green on the roof give a great contrast.
It's a shame the compression software has produced the strange squares at various places.
