While in the Nepali resort city of Pokhara, I stumbled upon the making of a popular Nepali musical (in the Bollywood vein) starring one of Nepal's most famous devis. Those who've seen an Indian movie of this genre can fill in the blanks regarding style and content. 'Kaliwood', of course, is the Nepali derivation from the Indian term Bollywood which, in turn, comes from...

Notice anything off with the lighting? A movie set just isn't complete without giant skin-burning reflectors which make for a counter-intuitive lighting effect...

Wow. When I saw the thumb I thought it was a strange scene from "the sound of music". Great moment.

Haha, a funny photo Caleb! But I like it that you share it here. I like those stillettos and the moment they're climbing up the slope....

Thanks for sharing....

Alex M.

Ha Ha Ha, this is an interesting view in TE, nice light and luck too ;)

Great colours - real technicolor and the foreground so unreal with the reality of the background behind. Film sets are strange place (even on location)

Wow Caleb, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I noticed your name below the shot. Not quite your usual style, I would say. Maybe not the most representative Nepal shot, either... All together, an incredible shot. Good job lighting this one. ;) It's a welcome insight into the local movie industry, and surely a different side on Nepal. The high-heel boots must make the climb up the pasture rather demanding. I love it, it's simply surreal.

Cette photo est magnifique avec la lumière centrée sur le personnage central, ce qui la rend irréelle puisque le soleil est dans le dos des personnages!!!??? Mais à part cette incohérence, ça me plaît!

Yes, this is pure Bollywood... :-))) The light is unrealistic, and the sharpness is overrealistic - so the whole picture a little bit surrealistic!

Hej Caleb
It's a bit of Sound of music... but totaly different. It looks like a theaterplay (musical) where they have a photo wall paper background. or maybe some tacky postcards from the 60's... I don't know I get insane.
Cheers anders

Before reading your note Caleb, I though you were cheating! :) The light did not fit with their shadow! Like you said, something was off with the lighting. And a lot!!! Then, reading your note, light appeared! :))
Kaliwood light! Indeed, as others have mention already, something that remind us of "The Sound of Music".
I might have try to dessaturate the white that appears a little too red/pink to my eyes.
A photo that has brought a smile to my face! :))))

LOL!
Very funny photo Caleb!
And oh, it is the fantasy of any man: "would they not please chase me in this land of heaven?"
Interesting light and good short notice on the event. TFS,
Deniz

Hola Caleb,
Una imagen de impacto y muy diferente a las que nos tienes acostumbrados. Me gusta el ambiente "bollywood" de la escena.

Mirari

Hi Caleb!

My God! You really were "on" the set!... Did you work as an extra? Were you the set photographer? There's no way you could have done that in Hollywood, with Angelina and her friends... :-P) It might have been a great experience to see how the nepali work. This is probably the famous series "Tarzanette in TeletubbyLand"...:-P)

Why bring your flash when they provide it for you! This is a rare opportunity Caleb and its cool to be a witness of such a scene. Perrrrrfect frame, right timing, wonderful background and excellent exposure management. The movie buff in me like this photo very much!... :-P)

Thanks!

André

Hi Caleb,
A picture filled with enthusiasm and joy. Like the rhythm in the picture.

Hie Cale,
I hate to be in front of this reflector. It looks more like a death ray. But it sure worked to get the dancers with the lake scene. Guessed you wouldn't need to pop your flash for fill.

Bani

Hi Caleb, very nice shot and excellent photo quality!

Very different from your other photos, but equally excellent ! Very optimistic and not as perfectly synchronised as the Indian movies it seems, so this appears more spontaneous and more charming in a way - lovely and funny !
Compliments,
Cath.

Hi
I like the colours and girls of course ;))
well done :)
