In Kathmandu the principle Hindu temple is the Pashputinath, built over the sacred Bagmati river. It contains hundreds of beautifully carved shrines to many, many gods. Most of these date from the 14th to 16th centuries. Often they are inhabited by Sadhus or Holy men. Most these sadhus seem to stand around at busy intersections, awaiting donations from any devotees and tourists that pass bye. This one always looked so miserable and, as you can see, he had his personal pose, with twisted hands I think it in meant to be a yogic position and to aid meditation. However, his meditation seemed to bring him little joy.

What a great portrait... The depth is very well managed to isolate his face, and enhance his deep stare. An excellent framing on his posture, and the fine sharpness reveals the texture of his skin, and of the make-up.

j'aime le cadrage sur ce Sadhu et son étrange position!C'est vrai qu'il a l'air triste celui-là,je n'en avais pas vu ayant une telle expression!J'aime les couleurs de sa peau,il se confond presque avec le mur qui se trouve derrière lui,seul le sac rose et les quelques motifs peints sur lui apportent un beau contraste!La netteté permettant d'apprécier la texture de la peau est superbe,et la profondeur de champs excellente!

Hi Kevin,
Little joy indeed! But he is quite an exotic character! Nice texture of the ash covered skin and good colors, framing and sharpness.
He is, as the Trishuls (Shiva's trident) on his forehead and arms, a Shiva worshipper, often big chillum smokers! ;D

Indeed he looks so miserable... You caught him extremely well in this very special posture. Colours and textures are excellent.

I particularly good image kevin, not only does his pose and expression draw the attention but he details and subtle colours attract the eye also.

Hi Kevin,

Quite diferent from the pictures of Sadhus I've already seem. His posture seems more dimanic, even his face painting is original. Deep eyes that look right to our souls...
