The Bodhnath area of Kathmandu shelters a community of Tibetan refugees from the Chinese occupation of their homeland. A huge stupa or chorten was built here in the eighth century by a Tibetan king, Trisong Detsän. The area around the chorten has become a center for Tibetan exiles and for the practice of Tibetan Buddhism. There are as many as 50 monasteries around the chorten. Today the site is designated as a UNESCO World heritage site. As the sun sets every day, the people come out in their hundreds to walk around the Chorten repeating the mantra 'Om Mani Padmi Oum'( hail to the jewel in the heat of the lotus). This is a homage to the Buddha self that lies within all of us and of the whole of the universe. It is the realization of this Buddha self that Tibetan Buddhism seeks to achieve.

Hello Kevin,
A very mystical mood to this composition complemented by a feeling of great tranquillity. The composition is good with the stupa nicely placed in the frame but it is the purple tones and the interesting sky that make the image for me. Superb clarity.

Hi Kevin
the blue cast throughout give a special feel to this stupa, you know the stupa were the first buildings of religious architectural expression, only later they started to carve these out to change up to the now known carved temples.
BTW Budhism resorts from the same roots as most probably the older Jainism, only lots of Jains were killed by the Hindu purification(mounted on a tall post with sharp end) and Budhisme emigrated.
greetings
Henk

Bonjour, cher Kevin,
Philippe

Hi Kevin,
you can teach so much about Buddhism and I'm impressed by this image of the famous stupa in Katmandu. Great tones and beautiful view on the scenery.
Have a nice Sunday,
Nino

Hey Kevin,
Due its strange light conditions this great monument gives a certain mystic blueish ambiente what makes this picture so interresting. Magnificent contrast with the bright sky and the people around is also an important detail, muy bien!
Regards,Lance

Hi Kevin!
You have chosen a good moment, because with this light the stupa is really magnificent. Very good atmosphere. I like the silhouettes of the persons around. Very well framed also.

Light and colors are finally a bit strange but makes it interesting. The glance on the stupa is almost fluorescent and could scare anyone. Good large pov.
