This Square is the historic heart of Patan city,and it is filled with ancient temples and sculptures, dating from the 14th to 16 century, when Patan was an important center on the trade routes between India, China and Tibet. Due to the long political turmoil in Nepal, many of these buildings are in a poor state of repair. Patan is divided from only Kathmandu by the Bagmati river. Here, a stone elephant, from the 15th century, stands guard before one of the temples. Patan is recognized by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site.I hope that, with the coming of a more stable government, these wonderful temples will be better maintained.

Interesting capture of the religious site and this is a great stone carving. The man sitting on the steps is tourist or worker? Very nice architecture and heritage.

Nice image rich in architectural details and with a fine dark red background tone against which the stone elephant can contrast, you might want to remove that cut person on the extreme left.

it's a nice view on the wonderful architecture of Patan!The colours of the stones are superb,and we can see very well the details of the sculptures!Like you,I hope that the nepalese people will get a better life with the new government!

Interesting scuplture, I like the exotic temple details, I wonder if it was possible to take it a step or two to the left, thus detaching the sitting man from the sculpture, and possibly avoiding the cut in half figure sitting at the left edge.

Typical I guess... I find it a little dark, a little sad and then the mood is pretty strong. Just regret you cut the guy on the left.

Patan is such a nice place with so many things to discover. I remember very well this elephant that you caught so well in front of the red bricks temple.
