A short series of pictures taken in the Nepalese town of Bhaktapur on an early spring holiday to India and Nepal in 2004.

Some more information; this time taken from Wikiptravel:

Bhaktapur is known variously as “City of Culture", "Living Heritage", "Nepal's Cultural Gem", "An open museum" and a City of Devotees”.

Bhaktapur is an ancient city and is renowned for its elegant art, fabulous culture, colorful festivals, traditional dances and indigenous lifestyle of Newari community. It is just 12 kilometers east of Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, but gives the feeling of prehistoric times given the ambiance of traditional homes, lifestyles and environment. The conch shaped historic city is spreading over just an area of 6.88 square kilometer at 1,401 meter altitude. The city was founded in 12th century by King Anand Dev Malla. Bhaktapur was the capital city of the Greater Malla Kingdom in the Kathmandu Valley till the 15th century AD. Many of Bhaktapur's greatest monuments were built by the then Malla rulers.

Bhaktapur has more temples per square foot than Patan or Kathmandu and is far enough out of town to keep the crowds away. As a World Heritage site listed by the UNESCO, Bhaktapur has been heavily restored since a 1934 earthquake severely damaged the city. To further restoration and preservation there is an entrance free for visitors.

As you can see in this photograph and my previous posting, Bhaktapur is all about pottery. You will see it everywhere, drying in the sun, displayed on tables and shelves in front of shops and homes alike. The town is equally famous for artistic mask made up of black clay and colourful painting on it. The masks portray various gods and deities and carry special significance in festivals.

Hi Stephen,
Interesting scene with all this pottery on the ground. They form a fine pattern and the coloured flags create vitality to the photo.

Hello Stephen

Nicou

Hello Stephen, the repetition of the reasons for pottery is very interesting, l' selected angle good with a multitude of color for one is made very photogenic, your gun EOS 10 is always very valiant and restores, has my opinion, the coloured environment of this day and is better to adapt for this kind of photograph than well d' other apparatuses of the same type, the words miss to me to praise technical qualities of them but this accumulation of pottery and object in any kind of this alive heritage as well as enchants me by its color by with dimensions artistic one of the image, sincerely ...................Bonjour Stephen, la répétition des motifs de poterie est très intéressante, l'angle choisi est bon avec une multitude de couleur pour un rendu très photogénique, ton canon EOS 10 est toujours très vaillant et restitue, a mon avis, l’ambiance colorée de ce jour et est mieux adapter pour ce genre de photo que bien d'autres appareils du même type, les mots me manquent pour en vanter les qualités techniques mais cet amoncellement de poterie et d’objet en tout genre de cet héritage vivant m’enchante par sa couleur aussi bien que par le coté artistique de l’image, bien amicalement

Hi Stephen,
Beautifully deep busy vertical scene of this old fashioned market place. The silver blue pottery drying in the sun cateches mid day sun brilliantly.
