This artist is also a policeman, who paints in the yard of my friend’s house in Kathmandu. The police are not much trusted or respected in Nepal. He belongs to a low caste, and my friends are of a higher caste, but they occupy the lower part of the house and they get along well together. He lives with his wife, his aged mother and two children and when he is not being a policeman he loves to paint. Here he is working on an image of the god Shiva. He and his family are lovely, friendly people. In the past different castes did not mix much, but, I am told, today the caste system is more relaxed, although very few people would risk social ostracization by marrying out of caste.

Hello Kevin
He seems to be proud in front of his Shiva painting and you've chosen the adequate format for this image. The details and colors came out nicely! It looks you made use of the flash?
Concerning the castes, they might be slightly more relaxed nowadays but still they do not mix so much...
Cheers
Marilyn

hello Kevin

Very interesting to see artist and his work at the door for this portrait shot. The artist must be talented. How many policemen can paint in this world other than using the baton or gun?

Nice capture from Nepal.

tfs, bill

Hi Kevin,
An interesting shot of this painter/copper! He looks quite friendly anyway... and he is not a bad artist either. Colors and sharpness are fine, the framing is OK too

Laurent
PS. Coming soon in BKK... ;D

This is a very different type of art, considering your previous posting. However, it is also very nice where the colours are really stunning. I like his position and his facial expression. Another interesting detail is the television set in the background. Well done.
