Bhaktapur is an ancient Newar town in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Bhaktapur's main square, Durbar Square, houses the 55-window Palace which was constructed by King Bhupatindra Malla and was home to royalty until 1769. Close by is the Golden Gate which leads into Mulchok Court which is home to the Taleju Temple. This temple, like others in the main towns of the Kathmandu Valley, is dedicated to the goddess Taleju Bhawani and includes shrines to the both Taleju Bhawani and Kumari.
Bhaktapur is a popular day-trip destination for tourists visiting Kathmandu.
The picture: Bhaktapur's main square. The crowd surrounding a group of men who throw red "paint" to one of the statues of the wall. I begin to take pictures when I realize that the "painting" comes from the blood of a buffalo; a sacrifice. Gradually blood renews the color of the statues of the wall...
Note: movement in the picture is not an effect; I took the photo when I realized that it was actually blood and then I looked away for a few moments! lucky shot I suppose...
Thanks for looking!
