It's time to celebrate another anniversary. I couldn't imagine how this site could change my life. Well, not my whole life, of course, but at least it changed the way I occupy most of my free time, not only for the hours I spend in the site, but also for reviving my affection for Photography, in an intense and pleasing way that I had never experienced before.

I think that what makes TE different from any online community I knew so far is the way that personal and social relations mix so well with the more technical or aesthetic discussions, and how these two aspects complement each other and make each other more effective. That is why I am so worried with the technical problems the site has experienced in the last weeks.

There are plenty of sites out there to show our photos, some of them may even be fancier in many ways, maybe in some of them there is more chance that our photos receive more frank (blunt) critiques that may eventually be more useful to our evolution than the sugar coated comments that are usual in TE, but those are the exception, as in most of the other sites, photos get much less comments than here and most of them are laconic and superficial, completely useless. And when it comes to the feeling of community, I don't know anything like TE. A newcomer that reads this may wonder how that can be so important in a photo site, but the fact is that knowing (even if it's only online) those who write about your work an their own photos is completely different and not only more pleasing, but also more effective, than getting some apparently more insightful critiques of people about whom we don't know anything. I notice that in other online communities focused in technical issues, so it's only natural that it happens even more in a community focused in an activity that is more social by its nature - while we don't need others to get pleasure from Photography, if we put our photos online is because we want to show them to others and, even if we don't think about it, we also like what they think about them and we want to improve ourselves to produce better photos.

I haven't yet met much TE members "in person", but all the few encounters I had were much rewarding. I feel that I have friends that share with me the same interest in Photography in a way that I knew very little people. Many of them live in distant parts of the world and even those who live closer to me, I would hardly get to know them. In every meeting I had with other TE members, the feeling of familiarity with people I had never met in person before was almost immediate, and that happened even with those with whom I hadn't much contact.

The last of those occasions was the opening of an exhibition of Keribar in Lisboa, that happened last Monday. Sadly, I had missed the meeting with him and other members the day before. Besides Keribar, the other TE members present were Riclopes, AiresSantos and Tober. I had never met the latter neither Keribar and the I had been with Ricardo and Aires only once, last January, but even so I felt much more at ease than if I had gone with many people I know for much longer. By coincidence, I met there a former work colleague and her husband; if I felt minimally out of context, probably I would have spent much more time with them to have company and chatting, but actually I didn't. We were the last ones leaving the exhibition.

About the post: my first post in TE was shot the day before, not far from this one. A year ago, I chose another photo of this area to commemorate my first aniversary, then I did the same for my 300th post, so now I am giving continuity to the tradition. I wonder if next year I'll still have anything to post from this trip, which in a way is related with a change in my attitude towards Photography, as it was during it that I began shooting again in a more serious fashion, after many years of doing almost nothing. Some two years afterwards, it I wasn't doing much more than just the occasional and banal snapshot of trips, holidays, family and social events, but the bug never went down so low as it had before and revived when I bought my first DSLR and even more when I joined TE.

Location (latitude, longitude): 28.8236,83.8164 (I am not sure about the accuracy, but my guess is that the error isn't higher than 2 Km / 1.2 miles).

Note on the location in TE: according to Wikipedia, all this region, from Jomsom to Lo Manthang and Muktinath is part of Dhawalagiri district. I put my posts in the Gandaki district following the others, as almost no one posts their photos of the region in the supposedly right place.

Congratulations on your 2 years of contribution to photo post and critiques, and there is no better way than this post of your photo tradition from 1994 trip showing the lone person walking up the trail to the camera. A fine landscape shot from OM4.

After viewing your gallery, I know I have seen photography through your lens. I know I benefit from your critiques. And I can relate to most of your Note here, very well written with a sense of pride and reward.

Não me tinha apercebido e que anas aqui há menos tempo do que eu. Mas tens muito mais fotos publicadas. Eu estou neste momento a preparar a minha foto número 200!!! Talvez ainda hoje ou amanhã.

Esta aqui tem um PdV muito bonito mas v6e-se bem que já tem uns anitos em cima! A definição não é a melhor assim como as cores também o não são. Mas, creio que não há muito mais que possa ser feito. Eu próprio estou com dificuldade em encontrar alguma coisa de jeito nos meus slides.

Olahndo para a foto, podemos concluir que somos mesmo pequeninos no que diz respeito à natureza. Mas, é a vida!!!

What a wonderful sincere, from the heart note you wrote to go with your two year anniversary posting. I enjoyed reading it very much, it made me feel very good about being a participant in the site and more importantly the rest of the TE members I communicate with but have never met in person.
I like the symbolism of the lone walker in your shot, photography is a lonely passion, and a long road to achieve success, and for me, it is only when we get to share our creativity with others that it becomes truly fulfilling. This is the true value of TE, the feeling of community, being able to share your work with others, you expressed this so well in your note.

I like the note very much as it describes very well my personal impression and importance of TE, it is a large step more as only photography. Let us try to stay for … 20 years? and then discuss again about the next 20? It was a lucky day for me to meet you here and in real life.
I could not resist to write about this one. The light on the person is a bit problematic, could be from the scanning as the rest seems to be ok. The curves from the landscape create a wide bow, that is pleasant. And the beginning of the diagonal line in the upper left corner leads to the loss of the mountains peak, which I think would be more worth.
I am more attracted by the workshop.

Congratulations on your 2 years - I also have learnt from comments on my own postings, and hopefully have posted constructive comments on others'. Sometimes though I'm just 'blown away' by stuff and like to comment on that as well.

I've also learnt to post travelogues, links and landscapes from others and felt the good will from members.

Perhaps your intro instead of saying "post negative comments" it should say "post constructive comments"? - just a thought.

I appreciate your wonderful sincere note also. I also really appreciate the sense of community, altho most of my time is spent on TL. I value how members are so generous with their time and talent.
As for me, I now look at the world through different eyes, that of chroma. A wonderful learning experience.
A wonderful shot here with the layers, gradations and colour. The lone walker adds such interest.

Cette photo est une bonne occasion pour célébrer les deux années passées sur TE et je t'en souhaite encore beaucoup d'autres ;))
Pour moi aussi, TE est un site qui a pris pas mal d'importance au point de vue photographique bien sur mais aussi avec les échanges virtuels et les rencontres que l'on peut faire(jusqu'à présent j'ai rencontre 4 personnes).
J'aime bien le fait que tu ais inclus le promeneur qui semble si petit devant ces montagnes dont j'aime les différentes tonalités de couleur. Les nuages ici sont les bienvenus...

congratulations for the two years here at TE and the abundance of quit interesting shots. Thanks also for the friendship even if we never met each other but met someone that knows us both ;-)
Your note is a perfect proof that you're the perfect TE member and contribute not only with good posts but also critiques that have a little bit of everything: technicalities, incentive, sugar coat ... etc.
The present post is a a great one (here goes the sugar coat) with the composition of the trail leading from somewhere in the background in a great loop to the left foreground. The lonely person walking this line provides additinal element of depth. I just wish that the snow covered mountain in the background would be just as sharp as the foreground.

Thank you firstly for all your truthful critiques on my work since I have been here on TE for a short period of time. You point out what you think can make me better and hopefully I can improve myself all the time - so keep the honest truth up José,. So how have been your first two years - they must have flown by have they?
You have done a good job with the scan which has a soft feel to it. The colours are bold and heavy in this which I do like alot. The human element shows the depth of this place. Well done. If your ever over this way in NZ would love to have the chance and meet up with you.

I also notice the criss-crossing tracks, and the single person is effective in bringing life to this somewhat hostile landscape...

Esta fotografia é linda e a paisagem inesquecivel, tem algo, que não se explica e que toca. Gosto da textura criada pela superficie arida dos montes, do contraste destes com a montanha com neve. E o toque subtil da pessoa a caminhar devagar, devagarinho.

Une photo symbole qui montre le chemin parcouru sur TE au cours de ces deux années... Très bon anniversaire et toutes mes félicitations pour ton parcours. C'est toujours une réelle satisfaction de venir sur ton album car en plus de la photo nous savons qu'un commentaire intéressant et pertinant l'accompagnera comme ici.

Hi Jose,
I am a bit late in wishing you. Congratulations for this milestone on TE and you have chosen an apt shot to celebrate. I love this vast and barren landscape with the singular person looking so small in comaprison to nature and it looks like they have a really long way to go. Nice layers in the landscape too. Great!

Esta foto tem a marca da idade, de qualquer modo é um panorama interessante de observar.

Concordo com o que dizes sobre o TE. Talvez por isso fiquei surpreendido com o título da foto. Só dois anos? Eu tenho a impressão que já ando aqui a comentar as tuas fotos (e de outros membros) há muito mais tempo.
Agora tenho andado mais ausente, porque voltei a estudar e todo o tempo é pouco. [Por outro lado isso tem coincidido com os problemas técnicos do TE.] Mesmo assim, com menos tempo livre, não vou deixar de passar por aqui.

Olá José, só agora dei uma olhada mais atenta à tua galeria para ver o que andei a perder enquanto estava em S. Pedro de Moel e descobri este teu aniversário que não podia deixar passar, principalmente porque estas tuas fotos de 94 são as que mais me 'excitam'. Mas acabei por descobrir também este teu longo testamento que apesar de comprido li com prazer.
As duas imagens são fabulosas. Esta atrai mais pela fabulosa presença da caminhante e pela vista absolutamente deslumbrante, camada atrás de camada até se ver a neve lá ao fundo. Só a vista do caminho e as texturas das encostas fazem-me sonhar...O WS também é muito bom e ganha pelo céu e talvez até melhor luz e qualidade de imagem. Parabéns pelo 2º aniversário - estou como o Francisco: Só dois anos!

This site .. and all of us .. are blessed to have you here for two years.

The combination of the saturation with the scale and starkness of the place is striking .. sometimes I think is easy to neuter the impression of a place with our modern striving for digital perfection .. you have amplified the power of this place .. it really speaks .. your person amplifies it as well .. very nice.

Hola José.
Felicitaciones por tu segundo aniversario en TE, espero que estés aquí por muchos años mas.
Ya por fin en mi casa de nuevo luego de casi 7 semanas fuera de ella, es lindo viajar pero hay un momento que quieres estar en tu casa.
La foto que has elegido para tu aniversario la encuentro magnifica, tu scan se ve que es muy bueno ya que parece tomada ayer, la presencia de la persona nos da una buena dimensión del lugar, tu foto en WS es también excelente.
No acostumbro a leer notas largas pero he leído la tuya con mucha atención y lo que dices es lo que realmente mucho de los amigos en TE sienten. Felicitaciones.
Gracias por lo que le dices a Josep en tu nota, el y Pili su esposa son también personas encantadoras, la verdad que lo pasamos muy bien en Barcelona.
