[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
For centuries, a nation without roads (in the Western flat-lander's sense of the word), rural Nepal, to this day, depends on portage for the transportation of most goods between villages... As of last year, the small villages surrounding Bandipur were for the first time connected by a road negotiable by automobiles.

Hello Caleb,

Your photograph captures the very difficult circumstances under which these people live in Nepal. It is easy enough to say, "But they are used to it" — just thinking of the weight of the bundle of wood, the strap over the head, the strain on the neck, the vertical terrain... Life is not very fair.

Excellent photograph and social commentary.

Warm regards,

Bulent

hmmmm.....
but it is not only about Nepal, Caleb....it's a fact the entire eastern himalayan habitat is living with....i remember posting a similar photograph...only that it has a single character, a male, walking with such bunch of wood and leaves....i tell you a story...i was in the northern-most part of my country once (in the state of sikkim)...despite military presence, the people depend on their yaks to travel around and transport, because even high terrain vehicles some time conk off, or slides block the road, but yaks make its way through any such adverseries...

but this is a very good catch of daily life in the hills....a little on the OE side....
:o)

hello Caleb,
as Bulent says, good social commentary. Your POV allows us to see these young women as if we too are at the side of the track they walk. Their burden looks heavy and uncomfortable and their social condition is expressed in their tattered clothes and inadeqaute footwear for the work they are doing. A well composed presentation.

Bev

Hi Caleb
Lovely shot of daily life in this rural setting. This looks like hard work and the poses of the women tell a lot about the effort required. Excellent capture and composition and good lighting, though would have been even better if the top of the first woman's branches had not been cropped.
regards, Susanna

Caleb,
your shot reminds my own experience in this country. I have been there 10 years ago and hiked up all the way to the base of Pumori with the incomparable view of Nuptse and Mt Everest. I barely made it up due to the high altitude and had a deep respect for all the sherpas, females and males, working hard to carry all the tourists stuff. Your image shows exactly what it means for the people living up there. EVERYTHING needed for daily life needs to be carried on the back and. Marvelous portrait showing exactly that.

Hi Caleb. An in plein air scene, different from your urban, close shots of people in their daily pursuits. As usual the bright colours, the beautiful light and thoughtful composition make this a These young women must have a big heart in all the meanings of the expression. Regards. Klaudio.

Excellent DoF, the two women are 'in focus' and everything else thrown out of focus. I would have probably tried to get the bunch of wood carried by the woman in the front in the frame.

Not sure if the road would have good or adverse effects on the community, but I am sure the automobile makers would 've loved to welcome them to the club of carbon producers.

Cheers
