This a photo from North Korea's Revolutionary Opera. "Revolutionary operas," derived from traditional Korean operas, known as ch'angguk, often utilize variations on Korean folk songs. Old fairy tales have also been transformed to include revolutionary themes. This one was called "A True Daughter of the Party."

Basicaly, it was about a woman who nurses North Korean soldiers back to health during the war against Yankee imperialists. Determined to fulfil her party task, she sacrifices blood, a bone and ultimately her life, but insists on paying her party membership fees (!) before dying.

As a spectacle, it was outstanding. The propaganda, however, as with evrything else in North Korea, was pretty heavy.
