Photographer’s Note

The Inter-Korean border at Panmunjeom inside the de-militarized zone, looking toward the North Korean side.

The South Korean soldier stands and faces the North Korean building. The North Korean soldier on the steps (in turn) faces toward the South Korean side.

We pause to photograph this scene of the two soldiers on opposing sides.

hi, although the image is overexposed, IMHO,
this is a very interesting moment showing the stress between the two sides

Despite the technical flaws (overexposure) and the difficult light conditions (flat) it shows very well the idiosynchrasy of the situation.
South faces North, North faces South. What is the point? Get together and do something better instead of staring. At least it seems that the SOuth is more appropriate in placing two very basic buildings there, instead of the northern small palace.
I did a WS with the attempt to improve a little bit the overexposure. I hope you approve it.

Hello Russel.
Despite the quite overexposed view, I think the view in itself is enough to justify me giving you 2 points.
Recently the tension has been heightened so this is proparbly a view tourists will continue to see for some time.
It is an interesting custom to do like these soldiers are doing, but it reminds me of the behaviour on the Norwegian/Russian border.
Every morning a solder from both countries march towards the border, give a salute as both flags are being hoisted and the nmarch back....

This photo reminds me of that custom. Although this border has a bit more tension to it.

That's an interesting place. Maybe in a few years this will become a historic picture.

It’s a harsh reality. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine why some rulers are so stubborn. Unfortunately those that suffer are in innocent civilians. I’m very sure only if North Korea is willing to make peace and accept the aides from other well to do nations, the country can really do well and its people can have much better life. The photo is not as good as it can be, however the underlying message and subject of the photo make up for imperfection. I think It can be improved by darkening a little and applying contrast to the image. Thank for sharing. Good work.
