Photographer's Note

Lake Saif-ul-Malook is one of the most beautiful lakes of Pakistan, located in Naran valley high up in the Northern Areas.

A legend goes that the Crown Prince of Persia heard about the beauty of the fairy Princess Badar Jamal, (the daughter of king of Caucasus) and fell in love. The prince, after many hardships, succeeded in winning the heart of Badar Jamal. The lake has since then become the rendezvous where lovers meet: contemplating matters of heart and their future together, hence the name. The Jinn guard of the queen of Parbat became jealous of their love and one day breached the bank of the lake to drown them. But the lovers escaped and found shelter in a nearby cave, which still exists.
