At the entrance of Khyber Pass, gateway to Afghanistan, there is a special area called "Tribal Area" that does not belong to neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan. One tough and handsome militia is looking at the camera wth a rifle in his arm at the shade of the gate.
Our local guide said here in tribal area one year old boy is usually given a shotgun by his family as a birthday gift. |

Hello Lee
Wherever we go in the world there will always be local customs we won't be familiar with. Giving a shotgun to a one year old boy might seem strange to me and you, but to them it's perfectly normal.
I'm pretty sure this custom serves its purpose.
As for the photo. Many people don't like seing guns on TE, but why not? Ok so the way the weapon is shown off might be an affecting condition, but I'm pretty sure this guy here is as normal as everyone else in that area. Besides, he proparbly needs it.
For the technicla side: it looks good. Nice head on portrait, good soft light that really bring out the featurers of both his face and his clothes...and the Kaleshnikov rifle...
Take care.
