Moti Bazaar, in 'Pindi (Rawalpindi)
(again, the scan of a photo from a slide)...

This big and old city near new Islamabad has a large bazaar ; this section sells various things for ladies, such as cheap jewellery, ready made clothes and clothes for children, make up etc. Golden jewels are sold another bazaar.

There is more freedoom here than in Peshawar in the east, it is much easier to walk around ; my pleasure is to loose myself on purpose when travelling - as a tour guide used to predicted itineraries that I do countless times (in other countries), what I like when I travel is to wander here and there, loosing all sense of direction if I have time : that way, the adventure starts, one meets people when trying to find one's way and the unexpected can always happen.

To suddenly change one's route, according to one's mood is less easy when being accompanied by a friend, but still possible... But anyway, for the ones who don't like to lose their orientation : bazaars are certainly not the best place, as they tend to be big and to have been built over the centuries without real logical planning... From Marrakech in the west till Dhaka or even farther in the east, all the bazaars look a bit the same but each one has its specificities - and I cannot get enough of them !

Just watch your belongings, let you go and open your eyes, wide open...

Hi Cath.

Lovely and active is this image from Rawalpindi..
Well captured a moment, and see the smiles of the people, enjoying their stay over there.
Journalistic is your approach in writing notes !!

Salutes to you for this excellent frame.

Hello Catherine,
I am impressed (and a bit jealous) that you managed to get such good exposure and sharpness under what must have been quite difficult conditions. I have been to an endless number of "Oriental" bazaars and always get rather frustrated because it's so hard to get good pictures if you want to carry little equipment and melt into the crowd.
Very well done,
Gert

Hi Catharine,

you are right: all bazaars are similar (concerning their oriental atmosphere, the smells and colors)but nevertheless they have their own faces (especially those of the people - who look and who are dressed fairly different e.g. in Turkey, in Pakistan or in Marocco).

Is the bazaar in your photo inside a building (because of the color of the floor?) The people in the photo look rather wealthy, especially the two black-dressed ladies with the baby.

I like the sharpness of the photo, and I also like the composition - however it´s a pity that the boy (?) in the right is mainly covered by the shirts.

You still surprise me with your notes, Cath. I would never remember writing about what you wrote. I also cannot get enough of bazaars and look for the specifities of each one. Let it go, without looking at the map, it's the best thing, to find interesting hidden places that don't come on guide books, but it also takes time and I got lost in the middle of no where, many, many times.
Nice warm human atmosphere here. We don't see much of the produts, since you seemed to focus on people. I see happy faces and a general good mood. The intriguing well dressed boy, seen in the middle, and her sister in pink captured my attention.

Hi Cath. This bazar photo from Islamabad is well taken along with a beautiful note to accompany. You have rightly observed that there is relatively more freedom here in the capital than in Peshwar. Such market place is quite common in this part as well. Thanks for exploring the pulse of such places where interaction is the key word between the buyers and the sellers. Regards.
Partha

These are so much like Indian markets. Just like Hyderabad or Lucknow. We ofcourse share a lot in common, its a pity the two countries are not on better terms.

Hi Cath
Pictures of bazaars and markets always are interesting as they are the part of the city's 'underbelly'. Here you've shown more of the people & less of the marketware. The mood seems to be buoyant. Good capture is low light & good scanned image Cath
Best Regards
Angshu
