I've just came back from amazing trip to Northern Pakistan through Karakoram Highway. This was one of the most amazing sights I've seen along the road. The best of all was the fact, that this view of Tupopdan mountain was just in front of our hotel. The front island that nicely balance the composition is sand island in the river flowing through the valley.

I have used ND filter to balance the light.

The Karakoram is a ‘who’s who’ of the world’s tallest peaks – including K-2, second only to Everest. And its valleys deliver a glut of glaciers, the longest outside the polar regions, with some creeping right to the road edge. The 240-kilometer Hunza Valley is an ancient and remote kingdom in the northeast of Pakistan, nestled close to China and the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan. The simplicity of village life belies the valley’s strategic and economic importance. Not so many years ago, travel through its narrow gorges and high passes was treacherous as local brigands supplemented meagre agricultural outputs by raiding silk route caravans, trading slaves and capturing loot

The Tupopdan "sun drenched mountain" (translation of local name) or Cathedral Spires of Passu 6106m, visible from the Karakoram Highway. It feels like a sight straight out of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is located in Gojal, Upper Hunza in Northern Areas of Pakistan. The KKH here crosses the raucous streams of the Gulmit and Ghulkin glaciers, then passes the town of Sesoni. In this stretch of valley you begin to see Tupopdan, a multipinnacled ridge culminating in a 20,000-foot peak. Tupopdan is a giant pincushion of sheer, Knifelike spires mountain rising straight up from the plain and dominating this section of the valley. The Wakhi village of Pasu (8,500 feet elevation, 102 miles from Gilgit)

A very nice view indeed!
The peak looks very alpine in the background.

Hi Lucie,

thanks for sharing this very clear and very clean picture of pure nature. the last three days I had the chance to visit a river in Italy, left in its natural conditions, so this caught my eye.

Only suggestion I could make to move POV app. 10m to the left, to have the focal point (where the valley ends) a little bit more left, at the golden ratio (39%left/61%right).

Congratulations for this pic, as for all your others !
Best regards Chris

Dag Lucie,
Indeed, very impressive view...really amazing seeing this landscape. A shame Pakistan is not the most inviting country to travel these days, because these landscapes are really amazing.
Good use of the natural lines and the use of highlights and shadows...wonderful composed. It's a great shot, you can be proud on it.
Groetjes, Henk

Beautiful shot dear Lucie. The sense of depth is incredible and so is your light management. Love the play between the deep blues and the dark black tones. There are a lot of lines here and that makes your composition even more striking. You indeed have a great eye for framing nature. Like it a lot!

Wow, yes this is a beautiful place. I would love to be so lucky to visit. I visited northern India, but I think that this even more remote than that. And from your photo it appears to be.

Maybe you could post a photo of your hotel, as I would love to see what it looks like.

Hello Lucie,

Effectivement, on a l'impression d'être devant un décor de la Terre du Milieu dans le Seigneur des Anneaux ! La perspective est superbe dans cette vallée et elle méne directement à cette série de sommet au loin !
Superbe image !

To greet yourself, I have been charmed with a pleasure your gallery, a greeting.

Hi Lucie,
excellent beautiful shot of a magic place.
You masterly managed the light and you painted with the shadows and reflections an already fantastic place!
A smile
Luca

This a wonderful pic of a place that I'm soon to visit. You’ve managed to capture such a massive scenery and detail in such a confined shot. Excellent work thumbs up! The colors are so vivid and breathtaking. Pakistan indeed is heaven and your shot is testimony of that.

This place is where my roots are actually. The title you choose is excellent. If there ever was a LOTR setting it would be in Pakistan in the Karakorum range. I guess you didn’t spot any wildlife in this region? It’s absolutely fascinating and mind-boggling. From snow leopards to eagles and other rare species. The snow leopard is known as the king of these mountains. I would recommend the documentary made by BBC planet earth episode Mountains.

For all those critics that think it’s not safe to travel to Pakistan they’re wrong. The media likes to portray Pakistan as bad as possible for obvious political reasons. I would spare the details as this isn't a political thread. Lucie, a woman, is a living proof that there’s no harm in traveling to Pakistan… Thumbs up for you brave Lucie. Patiently waiting for the subsequent sets... :)

Wow, I'm extremely jealous! I've wanted to go to Pakistand and the Karakoram region for a long time. I hope you tell us all about it, with details of how to get there and what the conditions were like. As usual you have some incredible light on the landscape, and an impecable composition, with the sandbar in the foreground, the V-shaped valley and the beautiful mountain in the background. Superb!

There is only word I can think of to describe this photo Lucie, and the word is 'dramatic.' The mountains, the lighting, the huge river are all full of drama. I love how the low sun is casting patterns of light and shadow across the river. Very cool place, very nicely captured.
Regards,
Ryan

Oh, and another winner. This one I like even more, the form of the sand-bank in the river perfectly balances with the huge mountains in the back. Also nice play of light and shadows. Pakistan doesn't sound like an easy destination. Did you do that trip on your own or as part of an organized tour?

Hi Lucie,

this is incredible! the light, the landscape, the whole thing is just amazingly beautiful! Thanks for sharing this with us;-)
Eric

Hi Lucie,
What an amazing view which has a dream-like feel to it. The colours are absolutely superb, your clarity and composition are spot-on, and the contrast in lighting across the frame is what I like most. Really well captured.
Cheers Grant

Great pic her, beautiful, amazing colors, excellent composition with strong perspective lines, excellent combination of textures and a peculiar feeling o void, seeing all this solitary place, untouched.
TFS,
Ioana

Ahoj Lucie,

neuveritelne miesto, nadhera...
