[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Looking at this photo with silhouette of two travelers overlooking sunset of Mt. Spantik also known as Golden Peak (7027m - most attainable 7000m peak in the Karakoram) from Duikar - Eagle’s nest view point and reading through your comments on my previous post, I thought I'd give you bit more background of my trip to Pakistan. I'm sure many of you wonder (I would) how person decides to go to such a country as Pakistan, especially with all negative publicity it gets on news these days/years.

My original plans for end of June were to go to my beloved Scotland. About 2 month ago I've noticed that my friend Luca is planning trip to Pakistan, being naturally curious and explorer, I've asked Luca (with whom I share love for less traditional places to travel to) about his plans. Karakoram highway was always on my list of places to visit, but I have to admit that I had much later timing in mind due to not really stable situation in the country. After several talks with Luca and some more investigation about the country, the idea to go to Pakistan has grown on me. I guess the fact that I am currently based in Kuwait makes me feel more comfortable in the region and to get to Islamabad is just 3 & 1/2 hour direct flight.

Our trip was absolutely amazing mainly thanks to Luca excellent investigation and planning ( I thought that I am the best in the field, but now I've discovered big competition :-)) Overall I didn't feel any danger or tension, except when being in Gilgit where there is police or army standing on nearly each corner). We (together with Luca's charming friend Aldo) have spend most of our time in the mountains and have been always welcomed with great hospitability never to be encountered in Europe.

I have to admit that despite all that there was small worry and alert in my mind when I flew to Pakistan, therefore the bigger the surprise when I returned from my trip and found out about airport bomb attack in Glasgow, most probably at a time when I planned to be there and some possible danger in London where I lived before I moved to Kuwait. Who can say these days which place is safe and which not.

Lucie

Hi Lucie,
Like a NG shot. Excellent view. Nice colourtone and clarity.
Good job.

Hi Lucie,

At first, it only looks like another mountain shot, but what a surprise, when opening it, only to see this brilliant composition and clever use of silhouette subjects. How could it get any better than that!? This is a very creative and artistic scene Lucie, I like it very much!!!

The colours, although faded, are truly amazing. This brownish mountain in the forefront is a coloration we don’t see very often and it helps to make your Pakistan landscape quite distinctive.

Fabulous shot!

André

Dag Lucie,
A great note, thanks. Because i have the same feelings when people talk about Pakistan, but on the other hand i know that meeting local people is something complete different. So you went and came home with some wonderful shots. Of course the two people here are essentiel for the overall composition, but that bright light on the mountains is also very spectacular with those snow covered peaks...beautiful.
Groetjes, Henk

Hi Lucie!

It looks like a scene in a theatre. Beautiful light and colors. Good captured very sharp shapes of men at the foreground. Magnificent!

Regards

Jacek

Hello Lucie,
SIMPLY FABULOUS !!!!
I love this excelletn work.
The compo with the three different level is incredible.
Congratulations.
Greetings.

Hello Lucie

Fabulous image, what a view you, and the silhoetted travelers, have. Lovely split of colours, from the black silouette, golden brown in the foreground, the barren mountains and then the sky. Congrats.

PS. Like you say, where can you be safe in the world today? You need to be careful, but pragmatic.

Hello Lucie,

Quel superbe image ! Le dégradé de tons est splendide ! La silhouette du premier plan apporte un effet fabuleux dans cette photographie ! Je me demande comment tu as fait pour que le second plan soit si lumineux par rapport aux autres
Dans tout les cas, la lumière est superbe !

Great shot Lucie. Colors are wonderfully saturated and everything is so sharp. Interesting POV. At first glance you almost think that the two travelers are on a camel.

Hi Lucie,
Really excellent shot
Depth,colours,light and silouettes are wonderful
Well done

Yes this deserves the frame like a post card. So much to admire. Colours, composition... Too few words to say. Almost like a diorama construction, this photo has an amazing layered quality. Regards Paul.

Spectacular shot Lucie! The lighting on the mountains shows them very well, and the contrast between the silhoetted figures in the foreground and the brightly lit mountains is incredible. Great note too, and I thank you very much for thinking about all of us who have travel to this area in mind but have not made it there yet. Looking forward to see many more of your photos from there!

Wonderful capture. I really like the composition with the layers of ever higher mountains and the silhouetted stone-men and people in the foreground.

Very nice photo. The shadow of the first peak with the men is great. Sharpness and colors are great too. The POV is perfect. Congratulations!!!

Hi Lucie,
Excellent and amazing shot. Colors, silhouettes and compo are all SUPERB. Great POV. Well done. Your note is also very good. You are right, in these days any place in safe or not, nobody says.

Lucie... Just *wow*, Lucie. That is some picture. Brilliant actually. You've got a gamut of colors that capture nature in all of it's glory, and leave us in the shadows to sit, enjoy, but ultimately only a memory. While we come and go, the mountains await the next anonymous viewer to pass by. Any magazine would be lucky to have this shot.

Bonjour Lucie,
Magnifique! Un paysage et une compo à couper le souffle!
Amitiés.

Fantastic photo Lucie. I totally agree with Andre. The thumbnail does it no justice and what a surprise when opening it.

Great silhouette shot. The two hikers create a really good focal point for the photo along with the rest of the darkenend lower left corner with what looks like a stone trail marker. The layers of color and mountains fading towards the background have really pleasing, contrasting colors and are extremely detailed. The sky with the few clouds on the left just adds another element of color and interest to the photo.

...and it's always amazing how what you here about a country is sometimes totally different than what actually is the truth. I remember that from my travels through the Arabian Peninsula, especially Yemen. I was told it was a country of terrorists, I learned it was a country full of people who will bend over backwards to help a traveller. Good note.

One question though - How come I wasn't invited? :O)

Great work.
John

hello lucie,
what a marvelous composition owith these shadows!. And the depth of field is as great as the sharpness is.
Kind regards
JMarc

Ciao Lucie,
stunning shot! No other words... Perfect in composition, framing and masterly managed with the light/shadows.
A smile... and thanks for compliments!

Hi Lucie,
What a fantastic view... Looking at your picture help me to escape from my busy, noisy, smelly, stressy bangkok... I can only imagine seating there with them... what a peacefull idea...
Vincent

Lucie, a double thank you on this one here. Thanks for the stunning shot with four layers. The first in silhoutte and the last with the highest peaks in the world, but also for the background thoughts of your trip. Very thoughtfull moments on a very crazy and upside down world. Not just a nice photography post but much more!

Hi Lucie,
This is a fantastic photo! I guess everything was already said on this one, what I like most are the silhouettes that turn your photo from "another nice but bit'boring mountain photo" to a really great one! Thanks a lot!

Hello Lucie
As you yourself said in your intro "It is the light and atmosphere that counts the most". This opened out as a beauty, not a simple mountain shot bathed in natural beautiful light. The composition with the silhouetted peak with the two travellers, the layers of barren mounatin slopes and beyond that the ice capped peak, is nothing short of fabulous!

How come I've never discovered your gallery earlier!! Your photography is top class. And don't tell you are a casual shooter, the quality is top notch. Randomly selected this one to start my exploration through your gallery. Great shot!

Enrique

Hi Lucie, I've always admired your plays with light and colors, you are into one of my secret lists of members... :-) Your works are always interesting to me.
This is an excellent example, the view is great over the mountains and the silhouette of boys adds nice contrast and interest to the image, very well done, compliments, to this and to a lot of other images of yours.
Ciao
Vinicio

Hi Lucie - this is truly magical, the jagged outline of the peaks seem like a science fiction film based on another planet, the darkened figures also add a welcome human element, it works better since they're silhouetted. Being extra picky the bottom right part has exaggerated contrast, as if there is some addditional light source below. Goes into my favourites definitely. It's a place I would like to visit, but in addition to the safety concerns (which have so far deterred me from visiting Pak, along with Ecuador, Colombia, and many parts of Africa), I also fear having a Pak visa in my passport would create problems when crossing other borders. Maybe I'll try it a year before my current passport expires :-)

Wow... that's all I want to say...

Hi Lucie:

This would be a great shot even without those two people in the foreground, but with them it's phenomenal. The feeling of remoteness, grandeur, and vastness that you've captured is wonderful. Great job.

Clark

Lucie,
Great foreground silhouette to these stunning, and extremely barren looking, mountains.
I'm always impressed by anyone who can photograph snowcapped mountains without overexposing the snow or underexposing everything else. It's a knack I simply don't have!!
Regards
Colin

Hi Lucie, a superb shot, nice foreground, middle and backgrounds and everything is well exposed and composed...

I've long wanted to visit Pakistan; this marvellous, awe-inspiring photo has sealed it - I'm going as soon as I can!
We share the view with these small silhouettes, and feel humbled.
Thanks
Brian

Sorry to follow the herd, but this is my favourite of your Pakistan shots. You made really good use of the silhouetted rocks and figures in the foreground, and they make a great contrast with the brightly lit mountains.
The silhouetted area could do with a bit of cleaning up to get rid of the little bits of detail that are starting to creep in along the bottom - a plain black silhouette is really needed.
Other than that, this is a superb shot. Well done Lucie.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Lucie

Hi Lucie,
The composition is really clever and tones warm and soft. You remind me the fantastic and peaceful atmosphere i like in Northern areas from where i just came back one month ago...

Hi Lucie,
what can I say for this wonderful image!
All around are so impressive! The silhouettes in front of the peaks add very much to the whole scene. The depth of the field is excellent. The atmosphere was so clear in order to give us the maximum sight of the view. About the thoughts of the safe, all depend on people's love or hate for the neighbour and this is a risk. Congratulations!
Athanasios.

Lucie,
I saw this photo in the entry page of TE. What a marvel!
I congratulate you for this wonderful piece of art. The composition is superb, the three layers of different mountain ranges is very well captured.
Good exposure too.
