Mount Mayon is a perfectly formed, active volcano on the island of South Luzon. In 1814, Mt. Mayon erupted and devastated the surrounding communities. This is what remained of the Cagsawa church, whose bell tower has remained standing as a mute testimony of the enormous disaster caused by flowing lava.

very cool! Composition is excellent; it is neither the tower ruin that you chose as foreground for the volcano nor the the volcano as background for the tour, both fit and make this nice picture balanced.

Cool colors and depth ov view.

Awesome capture, David! The lighting makes it glow, and the composition is well-balanced.
Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Yasmeen

Hi David,
Fantastic image, great POV. Isn't it amazing how the plants are growing out the top of the bell tower, shows life goes on. The volcano looks marvellous in the background. Superb, thank you so much for sharing this image, well done.
Cheers,
Debbie

Magnifique association entre ces belles ruines et ce volcan splendide en arrière plan....on fait vite le rapprochement entre les deux. Le ciel chargé dramatise encore la scène. Beau travail, David!
Amicalement

Hello David,

Marvellous landscape and very good composition with the volcano in the background and the tour.

Good sunday
Nicole

Olá David!
Amazing lanscape. You managed to capture it with great colors... It gives a sensation of power and at the same time of fear (to think of the destruction caused by the flowing lava).
Congratulations.
Ana

A great choice of POV to set the ruins against the slightly-ominous still-steaming mountain that caused them, David. I like the suggestive dark cloud overhead, too. I think maybe the tower is a bit cramped by your framing, and could use a little more space around it, but overall it's a great shot. Regards, Ken.

This is an impressive photo! the background adds icing on the cake! the focus is a bit soft but is well offset by the quality of the scene!Cheers
Eric

Hello David,
A beautiful photograph telling the story very well!

Yo David!

Your photo's a very beautiful and always add a dream like quality to the image.

I like the rich colours in this shot and the interest that lays in the fore and back ground.

Well done.

Wow! Moody stuff! You have a great sense of drama in this image. The balancing of the ruined tower with the volcano is not only relevant in is a very powerful image. perfectly exposed. regards Kevin

Hi,
Not just the focus but the light gives this an almost three dimensional quality. A good choice as the illustration of the events, suggesting a defiance against the disaster. Nice one. Thanks.
Dougie.

Hi David
I am walking in your gallery and there is excellents shots like a professional photographer.Congratulations.
In this vew is wonderful the compositon.
Many regards, Rafael

Great composition, really good photo. Lots of detail and things to see - the dark sky, the bell tower, the crosses, the mountain, the design from the lava flows on the mountain, the greenery on top of the tower, the puff of smoke that looks like it is coming out of the volcano (making it look a little more menacing). They all combine to make a really good photo. Great DOF and colors also.

Dear David,
Someone at Nat Geo once said:" Surprised me..." Just about all the good photos in this planet has that or need that "surprised" factor. Simply put David, we as photographers, need to inject as much as we can with what we have around the scene, the "Shock & Awe" Factor. Which you did with this shot. The side lighting, the way the cloud rolled and how the bell tower's facade & character, drawn us in. You are getting there my friend.
Regards
Bani
P/s: I trek the mountain at least 2 to 5 times a year.

Hello David,
Wow! This looks like something out of a fairytale or movie set. The composition and colours are fantasic. Thanks for sharing,

hi david...
it's a nice capture... the portion of old architecture nicely merges with the valley... i love the tone of philppino green...
greetings...

Nice composition David!
Not bad to get this overgrown ruin and the volcano in the same shot. Only i Believe that with a background like this, the depth should have been longer. Maybe a smaller aperture and a tripod could have made the volcano pin sharp as well.
But maybe you chose this depth on pupose?
No matter what, it is a great shot.
Harry

Great shot!! Seems to be a scene straight from the 'The lord of the Rings'! The position of the church, its 'ruined' look, the light and shadow effect, all create an image of beauty and a sense of history.

Hi Davide,

an impressive shot, great effect by this composition with the tower and the volcano.

Compliments!

Gio
