Photographer’s Note
another seasonal tropical fruits, size of a regular apple not well known to many... the mangosteens. the rinds of these fruits are thick that they cannot brake open easily. the inside edible segment is a white meat-like sweet juicy half-moon shaped contents arranged like a small pingpong ball. the rinds, (dried and boiled) are used for medicinal purposes, believed to cure renal colics and uti's. mangosteens are usually grown in the southern part of the archipelago, hence as mentioned prior, they aren't well known to many in the north. however, these fruits are also native to most southeast asian countries including part of australia particularly, queensland.
