has anyone downloaded free cellphone ringtones yet? well, get BAHAY KUBO by Maurizio Ferrandini now.

.....bahay kubo, kahit munti
ang halaman doon ay sari-sari
singkamas at talong
sigarilyas at mani
sitaw, bataw, patani
kundol, patola, upo't kalabasa
at saka mayroon pa
labanos, mustasa
sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya
sa paligid-ligid ay puro linga.....

nb: a bahay kubo (probably from Spanish CUBO meaning cube) is the original Filipino ancestral home, and still is the home of many in the rural poor with pitched roof warding off the sun; hinged windows propped up by sticks and most often with stilts keeping the house high and dry. literally means a "Nipa Hut", a Bahay Kubo is of prehispanic architecture which was perfectly adapted to the climate, could easily be repaired or rebuilt after the frequent typhoon, flood or earthquake using simple tools and native materials.

the trendy Bahay Kubo of the present time is a modern Filipino home that uses designs, concepts and elements from traditional homes, but interprets them according to the needs of a contemporary way of life. the "vernacular" features echoed in architect Francisco Manosa's contemporary Alabang Home is the best example- executed in modern materials such as stone, adobe, molave, and narra, Manosa's "Filipino House" has a high-pitched double roof that lets in the light and releases the heat of the day; and a wide porch protected by oversized roof eaves on long slanted poles. the spacious sala has living, dining and entertainment areas adjoining- a space adjustable to one's needs. the master bedroom has a private garden complete with graceful Kuan Yin.

in the Philippines, the poor are literally poor, and the rich, filthy rich!!

Hi Benedict,
Reminds me of many homes in rural Peninsular Malaysia not too long ago. Can't find that palm leave roof anymore although that material better shade in term of ventilation & cooling. Nice composition of the house with flower pots, small vegetable plot, and dense & useful trees in the back. The hanging cloths add a lot of colors to the photo. well done.

Regards,
latiff.

Hello Benedict,
I loved this picture. The note is very good.
Beautiful work.

Hi Ben,
good representation of the lowly bahay kubo. I love the light materials of this structure very conducive to the tropical condition and the roof is quiet when it rains. if i were to build a house, it will be a bahay kubo inspired. Galing bai!

Hi Ben,
It gives an impression of rural life. The whole scene is beautiful in combination of tropical look.

Hello Benedict,

As we all live in a fast modern world, today we go back to the basics and live in an 'organic' lifestyle. We use natural building maetrials using less energy and give our environment a user friendly awareness. Though materials should be sturdy and typhoon safe, as the Philippines is an all year round tropical buy visited by seasonal typhoons.

Interesting note, the end line is a sad but a reality filipinos face in their everyday life...yet they carry a happy face.

Hi Benedict,
Nice picture, with good composition and beautiful colours.
An impressive image!
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Ben,

simplicity of the place and simplicity of the shot. That's what it makes this one so nice. I can imagine someone singing that song inside the house while she/he cleans it.

"in the Philippines, the poor are literally poor, and the rich, filthy rich!!" I will use this in here changing Philippins to Brazil!

Abraço,
Carlos

Hie Ben,
I can relate to this natural resourced home. Just about everything that made this home, is sourced or gathered from the forest.

I found your composition of this home, at home. You captured it with the natural setting which was the reason why this home is built here. I would say this is a green comfort composition of a place we Asian feel at home with.

Rabani

Hi Ben,
A humble abode most of us Pinoy started in life. I do notice though that most people in bahay kubos are happier than those in mansions :) I suppose money is not everything.
Well captured and presented. I like the contrast and the different green gradient color. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier
