Photographer's Note
I didn’t spent that much time in Russia during this trip, only 2 days in St. Petersburg and 2 days in Moscow. Despite the short time spent in this country I was hoping to get some nice weather and light(dont we all hope for that all the time). I was quite lucky during last few hours I've spent in Moscow while walking around Red square. As soon as I've got there I've seen really beautiful late evening colors in the sky with really soft feel. Holding my new Canon 400D in my hands I took lot of photos, only to realize that I forgot to change ISO which was set to 1600 from the shoot in the underground where the light was very low. Unfortunately I've realized that bit too late when the light and sky has changed again. However I still like the very soft feel with one of the most recognizable monuments of Moscow and Russia - St. Basil's basilica on the Red Square. I am absolutely in love with my new camera as the colors are great, and at least my stupid mistake will show you what result you can get at 1600 ISO...
The Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat (Russian: Собор Покрова что на Рву or simply Pokrovskiy Cathedral, better known as the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed or St. Basil's Cathedral) is a multi-tented church on the Red Square in Moscow traditionally perceived as symbolic of the unique position of Russia between Europe and Asia. It built in the 16th century on Red Square by Ivan the Terrible to commemorate his successful military campaign against the Tartar Mongols in the besieged city of Kazan, its mass of brightly painted onion domes and turrets is now one of Moscow's best-known landmarks.

Nice composition and lightning. But I just found the upper croping bit distracting here. :)
Good mixture of colours in this one!

Hi Lucie,
According to the atmosphere it might remind me a castle in the clouds from Disney's world; but back to the reality this beautiful cathedral was built by Ivan the Terrible, and certainly it has been also the witness of several hundred of years of history. Anyway I like a lot your picture, well composed and with soft colours and a gentle light.

When it comes to architectural photography I have a great difficulty to handle these cropped buildings. I like either to see them in its entirety or emphasizing some details. Here you present a photo that is on the middle of the two... I miss some context here. Probably you wanted to get rid of some distractive elements in the bottom, but I still can't stop imagining the floor where it lays. ISO 1600 once again... I thought we already talk about it before :)) Colors are good but the softness produced by the large ISO really doesn't help. One thing is for sure: you can do better!
PS: A new toy, hein! ;)

Great shot Lucie! Like a lot of famous places, it's hard to get a shot that looks original and artistic, and this one does both. Great idea to cut out the ground and just show us the domes and upper part, against the sky. This really looks great, and I like the way the small clouds on the left balance the photo. Too bad about the ISO, but those are the perils of using a new camera on a trip - something always goes wrong!

Lucie,
Beautiful picture even at 1600 ISO. Your composition is perfect and your colors, like you said, are spectacular. Nicely captured,

Congratulations on your new camera, I know you can do much better than this, the crop I don't mind that much, there is a foggy part over the church at the lower right quadrant that bothers me a bit, as if the glass got fogged by a difference in humidity, maybe it's because of the ISO difference.

You must observe the gallery of Vivek,IDdragonheart, when you are in Russia and want to shoot. Except the colours other details are not as expressive and such discrepencies in the shot from a great artist are not expected.
Hope you would n't mind mine words.

Good POV but where is the cross? Not so sharpen and the tree disturbes...

Hello Lucie,
This is a nice colored view of a strange building. I like your composition but I am disturbed by the lack of sharpness on the image. Why did you use 1600 iso ? can't understand why and certainly the main reason for the image quality.
Best regards. Christian

Hi Lucie,
Strong colours in this gorgeous composition. I like how you cropped the picture but it's pity you cut the top of tower. Lovely sky and good definition.

Bonjour Lucie,
Nice Picture, framing is original and lots of colors. I like the way you have framed the picture, usually we frame the full building.

Hello Lucie
I find that the softness provided by the higher iso gives a very nice touch to this image. I also find that your choice of framing is excellent. One of the most originals photos I have seen of this place.
Cheers
Daniel
