In Old Russia stoneworks were always expensive, as Russian Plain is what it is - Plain, without much rocks, and all was (and is) covered by endless forests. Thus wood was all-time available, and stone was something that you had to GET.
Thus the towns were able to make something from stone when they become rich.
So, when Yaroslavl in XVII century become VERY rich from the trade with Persia and Central Asia, innumerable stoneworks started to appear.
Here are one of the main churches in Yaroslavl, built in year 1654.
Insides are all covered with frescoes and all in all it's a very interesting building, standing on the central square of the city. |

This is a beautiful church, and it is no doubt where it is located, designed as it is in the best of Russian church building traditions!
The composition is attractive, as the building is nicely framed by the trees...
Delicate colour palette, not many but they match well!
