Photographer's Note
Red Square is the most famous city square in Moscow. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia.
The name of Red Square derives not from the colour of the bricks around it. Rather, the name came about because the Russian word (krasnaya) can mean either "red" or "beautiful" (the latter meaning is archaic). The word was originally applied (with the meaning "beautiful") to Saint Basil's Cathedral, and was subsequently transferred to the nearby square.
The Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat, better known as the Cathedral of Saint Basil is a multi-tented church that also features distinctive onion domes. The cathedral is traditionally perceived as symbolic of the unique position of Russia between Europe and Asia.
The Spasskaya Tower is the main tower with a through-passage on the eastern wall of the Moscow Kremlin. The Spasskaya Tower was built in 1491 by an Italian architect Pietro Antonio Solari. The tower's modern name comes from the icon of Spas Nerukotvorny (Divine Savior), which was placed above the gates in 1658. The clock on the Spasskaya Tower appeared between 1491 and 1585. In 1935, the Soviets installed a red star on top of the Spasskaya Tower. The height of the tower with the star is 71 m.

Beautifully done. One of the better shots I've seen of Red Square because I can see more of it. Usually everyone rushes up to Saint Basil's and that's all you see. I like being able to see what it would like to stand there and see all of the square.

Zdravstvuy Tatiana Pavlova. An original shot of the Red Square in which the Cathedral appears as a delicate mirrage. Beautiful colours and excellent sense of depth. By the way, the southern Slavs still use krasna to mean beautiful. Regards. Klaudio.
