Massive Mausoleum
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
After Lenin died, Stalin, needed to consolidate his own power, turned him into a state icon. Among other things, he built this mausoleum for Lenin in Red Square. The design was typical of Stalin: massive, overwhelming, meant to convey to power, inevitability and inescapability of the Soviet state.
There is a continuing argument over Lenin (or his widow) approved of the arrangement, and there is occasional talk of moving Lenin out and finally burying him. But for now, he stays. And the Russian Federation leadership continues to use his mausoleum as a platform to view military parades in Red Square; Putin is planning a major one for May 9th.
Technical: In RAW, adjust temp to Daylight, and increase Black slightly; also Clarity. In CS3, crop with a slight tilt correction, and High Pass sharpening. |

Hi Daniel,
good composition and wonderful colors! I like very much the crop, I think that points up the majesty of this kind of architectures (the old one and the modern)... so Russian!
well done
Chiaretta
Hey, Dan,
GREAT lighting in this and I love the sharp lines and angles. You chose a good POV to show off the immensity of this... extraordinary crypt. I felt it could use a bit of sharpening so I did a quick workshop. Hope you don't mind. Really excellent note, too. Thanks and have a good weekend,
Shelly

Hello Daniel
Your view on Moscow architecture is too gloomy:))
Reflects the mood of our "Soviet" past..

Hi Daniel,
Wonderful shot! I especially like the use of horizontal and vertical lines here. Well thought out and executed.

I like the bold, simple composition and colours in this picture. It makes the Kremlin look particularly dark and imposing.
