[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Here is another in my occasional series of a study of St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square. This one was taken in the early morning light (which for Moscow in February means about 8:30), so the sunlight is coming from the back right direction. This meant the red and white onion dome was in heavy shadow, but I corrected that in PP.

Technical: In RAW, Exp +0.55, Brightness 85, Vibrance +49.

In CS3, Lens Correction (Remove Distortion -10) - this is a technique I haven't tried before; I wanted to correct the appearance of the towers leaning in. Levels, then Shadow/Highlights, a bit of tilt cropping (using the finial as the base line), brightness +20, finishing off with minimal High Pass sharpening.

Hello Daniel
There is so much colour and pattern in St Basils that even this close-up provides a huge variety of shapes and colours. The 'empty' centre is a bit of a problem in this composition, although the light sky shows off the profiles of the domes very well. A good strong image.
Best wishes....Maggie

Hi Daniel,
Great architecture presented by your great point of view. It is possible to see lots of colourful details of cathedral. I like the joining of two domes and framing rest of photo.
I understand nothing about pp part but whatever you did, final share is wonderful.
Congrats,
Burcu

Hi Daniel,
Another gorgeous photo of the beautiful dome of this well-known cathedral. Appealing colours and nice different shapes of the several domes. Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars

Hello Dan,

I love the vantage point you've chosen for this photograph, I have never seen these stellated polyhedral figures that comprise these domes with such resolution. This is a first rate photograph, with the subtle blue sky in the background. Your note is clear and informative regarding the post-processing.

Have a good week,

Bulent

I like this even better than the previous one. I like all the graphic lines and angles and of curse the vibrant colours again. Excellent idea to isolate details of the cathedral.
Well done
Kath

Dan,
I guess that you yanked up your zoom to max here. Right? Very interesting detail that you achieved here and even with the tight crop everyone recogniszes right away what you photographed here. Refreshing novel approach!
Peter

Congratulations and Hug!
