As I mentioned in an earlier posting, Stalin built the Moscow Metro as an "underground socialist kingdom" intended to overawe locals and visitors alike with its marble halls, ornate decorations, and fast service. Stalin has long since been dumped on the dust heap of history, but the Moscow authorities are still building new lines and new stations, and are keeping with the tradition Stalin started (service is still fast and good, too).

The Stretensky Bulvar station opened a few weeks before I went to Moscow, and as you can see in this picture, the decorations are modern instead of '30s ornate. (See the WS for a closeup.) The floor and the walls are still marble - nothing's changed there.

Technical: Forced into RAW (it was a JPG shot) to adjust the WB for the tungsten lighting, and some more play with Red and Green curves. Cropping and High Pass sharpening. I did not use Noiseware, since it reported that there was no noise (well, that's what it said, anyway), and anything that filter tried to do just looked awful.

excellent shot with great details like the cold light, the super-clean shiny marble-floor and not many people there at
23:30...i remember how packed the stations and trains were during "normal" operating hours.
i always was a bit scared to take photos there with all the police around. terrific job & best wishes, thor.
