Photographer’s Note
Located a short walk from Ilsan beach, clustered together and leading into one-another are Ulgi and Daewangam park, along with Daewangam rock (shown here). These are must see sights for anyone travelling through or staying in Ulsan.
King Mummu, the 30th king of the Silla dynasty achieved unification of the countries of the Korean peninsular in AD 668 and upon his death desired to become a dragon to protect his kingdom from enemies. Thus he was buried under a great rock in the East Sea and became a guardian dragon. However his rock is up the coast somewhat in Gyeongju but his queen is right here in Ulsan. She became Daewangam rock.
When she died she also decided to become a guardian dragon because she could not forget his noble deed of her husband. It is said seaweed does not grow around this rock because of the dragon.
Take whatever you will from these legends - to some they’re a sacred reminder of Korean history to others they’re just beautiful geological rock formations.
This history lesson aside reaching the end of the trail after crossing the blue and yellow bridge will bring you to a little fenced outpost with views out over the ocean. It’s very windy and a place for contemplation. Ulgi park and Daewangam Rock are worthy places to visit in Ulsan though sometimes a little out of the way for those not in Bangeojin area of the city. It is still one of the ‘unmissable’ sights for those any where near the area."

The lookout at top left, is crowded with Koreans admiring the view. (Daewangam = the Rock of the Great King.) But in Ulsan, it's the Queen's Rock.

Hi Chris,
The diagonal line of the bridge is an asset to the composition. The point of view is showing the beauty of the rock formations and leads our eyes towrad the horizon which is giving depth to the photo. The color of the water iamazing, the reflections of the rocks are well received. Have a nice day.

Chris,
This is a well composed shot using the rock formations to frame the inlet. The bridge leads the eye through the shot creating a nice diagonal through the scene. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness.

Hello Chris,
A good capture of this rocky coastline. I like the point of view on the crowded bridge and the tones and textures in the rocks. The people add much to the atmosphere.

It seems that south corea is the place for me... with such lovely coastal scenery... curious how the rocks formations look like those ones in my island (granite?). It's a composition that every seascape lover cannot help but appreciate. I'm striken by the light contrast and the intense blue of the ocean. The channel forms a nice diagonal!

Donato
