Photographer’s Note

A flower heart framing the 3 rocky islets in the river & dam (Do-Dam-Sam-Bong). Part of the new highrise in downtown can be seen if you look carefully. Locals complain about the effect on aesthetics. The legend has the big rock in the centre as the unfaithful husband & his disgusted wife at left turning her back on him, and his new ladylove at right, distancing herself from the fracas.

Dawn is the best time to get the sunrise silhouettes of the three islands with mist & boats. Sunset is not recommended.

A pretty composition featuring this heart-shaped wreath. It makes a very attractive natural frame for the three rocks all nicely lined up in a row. Pleasing natural colours and very good sharpness.

Hi Chris,

The heart made of flowers takes my eyes toward the islands and toward the mountains which is giving depth to the photo. The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. have a nice day.

Hi Chris,

The scene is definitely picturesque.

I have an idea of a shot in mind. If you still have a chance to visit the place and the gear to bring, it would be nice if you could try this suggestion of mine:

1. Lens: As wide as can be
2. Aperture: say, f/11 and above
3. Metering: say, matrix or scene mode
4. Tripod: Since you'll be shooting at low shutter speeds (due to smal aperture and sunrise/dawn situation)
5. ISO 100 to minimize noise
6. Shoot low, maybe waist-level
7. Framing
- include all of the heart, plus some of the yellow flowers, but not the iron base
- inside the heart, include the three islands and, perhaps the bridge and the mountains
- do not include any of the chain-link rail or post
- tighten the aperture so the heart flowers could still be relatively sharp or discernible as flowers
