As close ups go, this is pretty extreme ... even for me.

A the Buddhist celebrations, this old man was playing a Korean trumpet. It's one of those Asian sounds that reminds me of wailing banshees, fingernails on blackboards, or chewing tin foil.

However, I got in close and made the most of the chance to pick his features out.

Hi David - there have been some really good close up profiles here recently and this one ranks among them - a little lost on the highlights and perhaps it's a small shame there isn't a more copntrasting colour element in the bokeh but still a wonderful face and the strength of his eye is compelling.

best wishes Kev

Hi, David.
Perfect capture and composition.
Player, his instrument, and contact beetween them : contact by hands and by mouth...and beautiful eyes of musician.
Very good DOF, here...
Good work, my congratulations.
Best wishes. Grazyna.

Maybe not technically perfect, but far superior to many. I would had liked his hand in focus too. The strong lines of his expressive face togheter with the lovely bokehed background makes this a wonderful tight portrait, David. Colours are delicious.

i agree that a little more contrasting colour would be nice, but the details that are presented here are really good. the lines on his face are a highlight and the dof is good too. good job!

Hello David,
Bravo pour le gros plan sur le visage de ce musicien.C'est de la belle photo.
La structure de la peau est bien rendue et l'attitude est bien captée.

Very good close-up, David! Great DOF, perfect sharpness emphasises the creases on the face. His eyes can be seen just partially, but as he looks away gives dynamics to this photo.
congratulations!

Szabolcs

what strikes me the most here is the eye of this man! nice cloe-up but maybe too close?? LOL

Hi David

Nice profile close up of this man. Really tight. Godo dof very sharp where it needs to be and full of detail. Great focus on the mans eye. Anyhow well done.
