The Elephant Man Photo

Photographer’s Note

I always found it amazing to see how people in Sri Lanka (and some other countries) use the elephant in their daily life occupations.
They are quit exceptional creatures as I feel that within their enormous body, they always try to maintain certain elegance.
Quit a number of elephants were taking a lovely afternoon bath in the river while enjoying the bright sunshine. Often, they get very pampered being scrubbed on the back by their guardians. Other caretakers just wait until the elephant has finished his beauty wash, like this patient elephant man.
I like this young elephant and his interesting posture as he tries to lift his whole body out of the water. It seems as if an almost seductive smile on his face is going into my direction.

Salut Sabine,
quand arrive l'heure du bain pour les éléphants, cela donne toujours de beaux instants à immortaliser, c'est encore le cas ici.
J'aime bien le cadrage que tu as choisi, laissant une belle place à cet éléphant qui se baigne.
Passes de bonnes fêtes et continues comme cela !

This is a nice picture of elephant bath. Nice composition with frame. Do you think it would be better if you cver atleaset one more elephant ?

Belle composition. L'éléphant a vraiment l'air d'apprécier son bain! J'aime bien l'impassivité du dresseur face à une telle masse. Masse bien rendue grâce au cadrage.

une belle image mais le cadrage n'est pas top ... elephant plein la pastille (je sais c'est une grosse bête !) et le meneur attire vraiment le regard avec ce blanc pétant ... et on voit qu'il est out of focus ...
Et le format panoramique ecrase ton elephant ...
Desole pour cette critique un peu dure

Bonjour Sabineke. nice PoV and good light. too bad you couldn't get another angle to get the other elephant as well... and less empty space on th right... sometimes I really like space but here I think it is just dead space. Regardless, it is a good shot.

Hi Sabine,
I love elephant. From your photo it seems that the elephants in Sri Lanka are completely different from those you fine in Africa.
You captured this dynamic moment (of seduction?) very well.
Great timing and good perspective. Composition is also very good.
I think that the other elephant in the background makes the man look even smaller.

C'est une bien belle photo. J'aime voir ces scènes de la vie "banale" de tous les jours ! J'aime aussi voir qu'hommes et animaux peuvent vivrent en se respectant.

Étais-tu au Sri-Lanka dans le cadre d'un programme humanitaire ou de préservation de la faune ? Si oui, qu'en as-tu pensé ? Car c'est exactement le genre d'action que je recherche, pour combiner voyage touristique et utile aux populations que je visite.

This is a strong photo but I do agree that there is a bit of empty space on the right. i won't be hard on you here as I don't know what the shot conditions were.

Still, a dramatic photograph of everyday life in Sri Lanka.
