Photographer’s Note

I arrived at this fish market, in the neighbourhood of Negombo beach, when all the fishermen were almost sold out. There was only the sight of some leftovers and a very penetrating smell of a thousand fish long gone.
This man was cutting up some fish trash and I don’t think it was meant to be sold afterwards…

I post this image today as a homage to all victims of the tsunami, but especially to the fishermen of Sri Lanka who lost their life today one year ago; and to the fisherman who survived but whom fear obliged to look for other work znd to reconstruct their lives from scratch.

Dag Sabine,

terug een "actiefoto"... men at work (het moeten niet altijd de vrouwen zijn die het hard labeur doen in sommige landen, hee). Tja, ik zou er ook niet van eten, zoals dat daar in het zand ligt, in volle zon... (lust zo al geen vis).

Yes you are right, with all the festivities of Christmas is can easy to forget what a tragic event happened this time last year. Thanks for sharing and reminding us of it.

You bring back some strong memories. I have been to this very market. I was there last year Christmas. The smell was unbelievable but it was a great experience.

The memories are sad too, as I was there when the tsunami hit. In fact I missed it by hours, my hotel was completely destroyed in Galle.

Hi Sabine, fantastic daily life landscape!
Good colors and perspective. I like the frame, the contrast, but the sharpness could be better.

This is a nice tribute photo.
Its the anologue camera that is making these colours so rich isnt it?
