Silkroad travels: Pamir
Did you suspect me of pointing the camera in order to avoid houses and signs of civilsation? Here is an overview of Kara kul (=Black lake), not to be confounded with other lakes elsewhere of the same name. We walked up a hill near Uy Bulak kotali (=pass) to 4'500 m asl. (see "Map: View") There are absolutely no signs of human activity to be seen! Some geological signs of the of the asteroid impact that formed the lake basin (shock features in breccias and cataclystic rock) have been found here (see impact craters); glaciers of the Ice ages ground everything up.

On the horizon o the left you may spot the Muzkol peak (6'129 m asl.) of the Muzkol range.
