Photographer’s Note

Travels in the Wakhan valley:
This is the museum of Namadgut Poyon (2'580 m alt.). It is small and holds some artifacts found in the region. The ruins of a fortress dating from the 3rd century BC loom over the museum and in the back of the photographer. The museum is worth a visit if only for the experience with the wily custodian who explains the use of all tools in the exhibition---in perfect Wakhi (I'm just kidding, I have no idea of the Wakhi language).

The building is executed on the outside in Pamir style, the walls are in adobe bricks, the roof a plank of aspen poles whose ends are covered by a frieze. The colorful decoration of the walls is not typical for Badakhshan.

Technical stuff: I had to add a band of sky on top of the picture in PS for better crop.
